Jessie Ware, dressed like a yak but damn good.
I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that.

Never really listened to Beth Ditto before but she was smashing just now.
Ruby Turner is always good.
I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that.

Well here's another pretentious arsehole, loved Beth Ditto and we're getting eighties retrotastic with The Beat.

That's a rather sweeping statement considering the number and breadth of acts that have been on Later over the years.
I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that.

Usually there's one act that grabs me and makes me to HMV on New Year's to buy a CD but this year the lineup didn't do it for me. Im watching American Werewolf in London instead. Jenny Agutter is 65 this year.

I’m just enjoying seeing the bloke from Cold Feet on drums.

PS. I’m not pretentious.  ;)

I remember seeing that show on B&W TV when it was spelt differently.

On Mr Holland's broadcast or more generally?

He might be better if he dumped the guitar and joined a group.

Mavis Staples was amazing at 78yrs old.  The vocal range might have become limited, but her phrasing and timing were perfect.

I visited her family shop once.

The paper was reasonable quality and the printers reasonable value, but I didn't go back.

Yes.

What is most fucking annoying about the overpaid git is that he seems to be actually quite nice, and way more grounded than anyone in his position has a right to be. The music? Still massively overrated - but that's the music industry for you. It made Gerry Spice a millionaire, after all.

(I do find his songs quite bearable. Just not great ... )

"Donald Where's Your Troosers?" was a hit in 1961 and again in 1989. Stewart is said to have written the song in 10 minutes as he sat, minus trousers, in the lavatory of a recording studio

Fortunately, I'm too young to actually remember the White Heather Club.

My over-riding memory of the White Heather Club was them wheeling some pissed Scotsman on some time after midnight to sing some ditty about "A Wee Boy with a Bow & Arrer".

Oh god, it lives. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HivJ4EosWS8

An immortal line from the late great Les Dawson. 'Then they gave him the ultimate torture for a Scotsman. Nailed his foot to a plank and played a Jimmy Shand record!'

You might need to be of a certain age.

One of the greatest quotes I can recall from a sports personality was when the great Denis Law (yes, I used to follow football in the 1960s) exclaimed to the owner of a Norwegian record shop "Whaddayamean you haven't got any Jimmy Shand!?"
