Cannonball Run.

I guess in terms of the 'classics of cinema' it was never going to win awards but the comedy, timing, the cars and the raft of Hollywood glitterati willing to send themselves up made it so.

Funniest part is the out takes over the credits. Fact.

Can't remember seeing him that often, other than in Deliverance.  That was good.
I've dusted off all those old bottles and set them up straight

100% agree.  I saw this at the perfect (teenage) age.  I won't re-watch it because I'd like to leave it as a golden memory.
Some people say I'm self-obsessed but that's enough about them.

Read somewhere else that there's a difference between "great actor" and "movie star".

Burt Reynolds was undoubtedly the latter...

I'd definitely agree with that.  Some people, like a star, light up a room when they enter.

For example, I don't think any amount of Acting school training could help someone replace Jim Carrey as The Mask or Ace Ventura*.  Some actors can walk onto screen and simply dominate proceedings.

Michael Caine is a movie star.  I know he gives acting lessons but I don't think he ever did anything more than read lines in the way he always reads them.  Clint Eastwood was another.  They got covered in stardust at an early age

* I've always thought Carrey's performances were underrated but genius slapstick always has been.
