Macon to Lyon this section is not showing up on the veloeuro routes . It's like going back in time , big sections of dirt, gravel and some nice single-track . Some signs for the Ain route but it's all road . Glad we are in the European camp regarding cycle touring , mountain bikes, racks and panniers.  Modern 2-2.2 tyres roll well ,on the last of our XR schwalbes still think they are better than the marathon extreme tyres as they have delicate sidewalls. I think the Americas have tried to reinvented the MTB tourer , lots of people have been using them for at least 20 years 😁
