« on: 09 May, 2008, 09:44:00 pm »
HIGNFY will go on, but who will be the chair?

For pitty's sake, not Sandi Toksvig, please!

I think it's going to be Fatbloke. That's why he's got a load of free tickets. And I heard him practising the trumpet last night. ::-)

At the risk of making ISIHAC a radio clone of QI, may I suggest Stephen Fry?

His public-school upbringing and impeccable comic timing make him an ideal candidate for Humph's shoes.  And he'd have the same twinkle in his voice (?) when doing the smutty Lionel Blair jokes.

I wonder if Samantha might be asked to take over the mantle?

I would imagine that she would be able to handle the teams' members well and could pull off a fluid display.

But I reckon he's probably too old to step into Humph's shoes. ::-)

What about Alexander Armstrong?

I was listening to a clip of ISIHAC the other day where Humph was telling how the record archivists were having a wine tasting and managed to get a good Semillion for Samantha.  It's such a shame Humph has gone.  Plus the dude worked with Radiohead.  How cool was he?

I thought Clive Anderson would be good, only I then realised it would seem just like Whose Line is it Anyway.  There was a great episode of of ISIHAC where Humph slated Whose Line for nicking all of Clue's ideas. Clive Anderson seems to have replaced Ned Sherrin on Loose Ends, so he can't replace all the deceased presenters...

I think that Sean Kelly would be most excellent in this role  ;D

Not Henry Kelly?

On Today, Radio 4, this morning it was announced that..
"Comedians Stephen Fry, Jack Dee and Rob Brydon have been announced as new rotating chairman of the Radio 4 programme I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue."

Which is good news.

Jack Dee?  Rob Brydon?  No, no, no -  they can't be serious?

No lesser a man than Stephen Fry is worthy of this role of national importance.

I suspect it's a time issue with having just one regular chairman and there'll be one chair after this series. Either that or they're just too scared to take over full time. Nothing wrong with JD and RB AFAICT. They'll do a good job. I'm happy, for now, that isishac is coming back. Time will tell if three chairs is the right thing to do.  :-\

Charlotte - indeed. A revered national icon such as Mr. Fry, a man deserving a place with Quentin Crisp among the stately homos of England, is essential. Anyone of lesser stature demeans the position.

Unless - do you think Professor Donald Trefusis might be prevailed upon to take the job? ;)

They should have got Lionel Blair...

Stephen Fry can't judge the singing rounds as he's rubbish at that. Rob Brydon was fantastic at singing when he was on the show.

Stephen Fry also couldn't do the deliver the lines about Lionel Blair with enough innocence.

Jack Dee could do the dead pan double entrendres as required.

I think a revolving chairman was the best solution.

The recently repeated the very early series on BBC 7. Barry Cryer chaired some of the early episodes, that was very strange.

I should imagine that the Regius Professor of Philology would also be a fine choice of Chair  :)
