Watching DVDs/films & reviews sites...

What your philosophy - watch something whatever, or prescreen out the duds/non-suitable first?  If the latter what sites?

For DVD's I mainly turn to Rotten Tomatoes, but sometimes this is after I've bought the 'bargain' DVD on impulse.  e.g. I've still not watched 'The Happening' I once bought from Tesco as it achieved a massive 18% on RT.

And for suitability for the family, yes, Christian Spotlight on Entertainment...  CSoE is a tad 'over wrought' with relating film content to the bible, but they do usefully give a detailed idea at the end, of the level of swearing/sexual content.  From a family POV, because some 12 rated films are pretty lax (AFAIC) on this front quite handy IMO.

Explore the back catalogues of directors you already like.  That should keep you going for a couple of years.
