[HAMR] 1st June - Teethgrinder day 152.

Both Steve's schedules call for an extra hour in the saddle from today, 16-18 hours targeting 265-284 miles.  He hit the road at 08:15 so even if he didn't stop he'd still be riding past midnight.  My mind hurts.

Go Steve!

He does seem to make later starts now the longer days are here than previously.

Presumably there's a good reason for Steve starting later - and often finishing later - than he was doing before he was knocked off?  I did wonder whether he might be having early morning physio, or hospital visits, but this now seems to be a regular pattern.  Anyone know why?

Warmer? Or at least less temperature variation, so may allow less kit to be carried.

Still recovering from a broken ankle.  In theory I should now only just be thinking about cycling. I was told at least 6 to 8 weeks before my ankle is fully weight bearing.
I still need to be careful with it. I still can't use clipless pedals with my right leg but in spite of that am getting faster than I was in March and almost on the same mileage. 100 miles a day was a good day about 3 weeks ago. Now I am averaging 200, who knows what I could be doing in another 3 weeks?

I'm not going to get straight into the schedule without being recovered or without doing the riding to get my speed up.
So taking it a bit easy today and hope to do more miles this week than last weeks 1400.
Mileage and speed has continued to rise and with good recovery and done right it should continue to rise.
I am also trying a different approach to what I was doing in January and February. I started doing it before the broken ankle and it seemed to work well and seems to be working well now.

Lovely to hear from you, Steve, and good to hear you are still improving.

Can't believe you are getting faster. What the heck are they feeding you? Bovril?

Great to hear that things are progressing well, Steve - and that, even partially-recovered, you're going better than you were pre-incident! Looking forward to more good news as time goes by. Good luck!

Really good to get a reply in person - many thanks, Steve. Very best wishes for a continuing good recovery.  The days are getting longer; what you (we) need now is a bit more warmth and a bit less wind!

Bonne continuation!

Great to hear from you Steve and good luck.  I can't imagine pushing out such distances with two good legs.  Hope your recovery continues to go well.

Nuggets like this
in spite of that am getting faster than I was in March and almost on the same mileage.
and reading that you rode off the front of the whippet pack on the Flatlands to get to the food queue first are doing nothing to make my mind hurt any less.

Keep it up Steve, I can take it

Three things:

1. Great to hear from the man himself.

2. Gibbon ho!

3. Go Steve!
