Interesting to see his recovery and controlled return to riding the big miles via this excerpt from his Strava activity graph:-

It takes some time to sink in just what Steve has already done this year.  More than 25,000 miles.  The handlebars broke on my trusty yellow Roberts at the weekend, 13 years, most of 11 SR series and lots of winter club runs, 1 PBP and the Mille Alba totalling 50,000 miles have been done on that bike.  Over 13 years.  And Steve has done half that distance in under 6 months, with weeks out because of an injury.
Eddington Numbers 130 (imperial), 183 (metric) 574 (furlongs)  116 (nautical miles)

Enough of the past. Steve is on his bike again heading for the flat lands to the North and East of MK.

Go Steve!

Great graphic Oaky.

I can't take the credit - it's just a screen grab of one of the graphics on Steve's Strava page.

My 1500 miles last week was my best week this year to date.
From now on I need an average of 1750 a week.
Looking at last week I had a few sub 200 mile days which I should be able to improve on.
I am doing a fair bit of playing by ear and often change my daily plans to suit how things are going etc.
I expect to fall behind the required average weekly distance until mid July when I will need to ride above that average and keep it up for as long as I can then try not to fall behind it again until I have enough miles in the bank to be able to do so. I think it will take until August for me to be doing enough to regain my losses.

Great stuff Steve. It's really good to hear from you. Knowing roughly what you're aiming for and that exceeding Tommy's total is still on the cards helps to keep this exciting for the rest of us (and bloody knackering for you).

Bon courage!

Great to read about your plans, Steve - and fantastic that the recovery is obviously going well. Here's hoping that the weather and the road conditions are on your side for the rest of the year! Go Steve!

Wishing you all the best, Steve. This is like watching a very long limited-over cricket match in which the required run rate has been creeping up and up. A few really productive overs from the batsman's point of view can make a massive difference. Let's hope we are about to see a few of those overs!

Cometh the hour, cometh the man.

That match was played before Steve was born.
