'Mums' in Edinburgh http://www.monstermashcafe.co.uk/

Basically, they sell sausages and mash. 2-3 types of sausages and about 8 types of mash and 3 types of gravy. Oh, you can get burgers in a bun and stuff, but go to Mums for the sausages and mash.
The sausages are all decent, none of your floor sweepings. Either all meat or vege. You opt for 2 or 3 sausages, pick your mash (potatoe, cheesy, tatties and neeps, etc, etc), pick your gravy, and order a drink. They are licensed so you can have a bottle of beer or just get a cup of tea.

Very civilised with little kids, several of the booths are stuffed with old copies of the beano etc.

Prices are reasonable, service is friendly and quick. Go to Mums if you need a feed.

While we're in Edinburgh

http://blonderestaurant.co.uk/

Has an excellent selection of veggie and non-veggie lighter meals and is recommended for a mid priced meal. If they have  a fault the portions are large! (as appears common)

I was very impressed with the overall standard of food and food service in Edinburgh, although there does seem to have been a skew to the poncey bar over the last couple of years.

Blonde is about a 90 second walk from my flat. Mum's is great. If you want really good veggie meals, try David Bann's, about a ten minute walk from Blonde down the hill.

Blonde looks nice.

I was about to add Blackfriars in Embra but it appears to be dead, which is a bit gutting  :(
Do not clench. It only makes it worse.

First visit to Ichiryu ramen restaurant in New Oxford St, near Tottenham Ct Rd stn, last night.

They offer a set dinner for £15, with niku beef udon, a hakata bun (like a hamburger) with choice of filling, and a Kirin beer (or soft drink). High quality ingredients and very tasty, recommended by my Japanese other half.

Mamuska polish restaurant in Elephant and Castle, London
https://mamuska.net/

Don't go here if you are vegetarian.

Otherwise, it is great. Hearty polish food, not overpriced, quick service, great beer. Getting to be well known and hence busy.

The Dolphin, London

47 Tonbridge St, Kings Cross, London WC1H 9DW

It's a pub, with a limited range of beer, clean but not poshed up. There is the obligatory telly on the wall but the sound is off. The barman seems monosyllabic but he's actually pretty friendly. Copies of the Socialist Worker were on the bar.

Here is why you should go: great Thai food.
Mains for £9.95 and decently substantial. The cook will probably come out and chat to you.

When I was there with MsCharly, the chef-oik and MsCharly's hubby, the chef-oik was impressed to point of feeling a bit sad about the food. He works in a <redacted>posh restaurant chain that can't produce anything better than the Thai food in that little pub.

Oh and there is a 50p charge on using the card machine, but they don't mind just running a tab on drinks and food, they even suggest it.

'sweet heart's tea rooms in pately bridge.

I haven't got my food yet but they are getting a thumbs up. Two in fact. One for insisting on taking my bike round the back where they could keep an eye on it from their kitchen window, two for unasked bringing a glass of water in addition to the drink I ordered.

Oh, and dogs are welcome.

I've recently been to GIZLI at Wandsworth Bridge Road, London.

Very decent Turkish cuisine. Very quiet place, professional staff (is it racist to say that politeness and professionalism is a rare thing in Turkish restaurants? or is it just me?). Great shish kebab, big generous portions, served beautifully, the meat is fresh. It's a family place, and the owner's wife is the cook, I think. She knows her stuff, , and the guy does the desserts. Highly recommend for their meat.

The other one I would recommend is probably L'oro di Napoli at Uxbridge Road, Hanwell W7 3TH.

It's a pizza place, Itlian. Neapolitan, to be precise. They have a wonderful selection of pizzas, amazing meatlballs, salads and bread. The staff are well-schooled, and the food is fresh and cheap, so I would definetely say it's worth the money. The only problem is finding it and parking near it. I think it's good for families and singles alike, very calm and comfortable Italian restaurant.
