You clearly need some time to properly consider the opportunities afforded you by wearing the Noble Musky Reindeer Pelt of Destiny.  This is not the time to be hasty.

Think on as Hummers says so wisely.

This may be more final than merely setting fire to it.

Huggy 1 - Badgers 0
Just before The Rodney about 8pm on TMNH I noticed a dark shadow emerge from the verge which I realised was a badger ambling across the road.  Given that we were ascending TMNH I was not going quick anyway but I slowed further and steered to pass behind the said badger just at the moment that he was spooked and decided to do a U-turn back to the left hand verge. He promptly got a very close up view of my front wheel as it ran over his snout.  There was much growling & barking (from the badger, I made other mutterings) and as I was now at a standstill I was afraid of him lashing out at my ankle, or worse my front tyre.
Fortunately the badger decided that the verge on the far side of the road was probably safer after all and ran off that way, no doubt to inspect how many whiskers he had left.
OD arrived very shortly afterwards and once I explained what had happened he was glad that he didn't have to take me to the Vet to have me put down or ankle stitched up.
As we were discussing the incident at the roadside a cyclist descending the hill came past to whom a called out "Beware of badgers!" but I think he just thought I was mad and carried on.

There was quite a lot of nature around as earlier in the ride we had seen a weasel, also on the verge, but he had clearly been paying attention in Tufty the Squirrel's Green Cross Code lesson because he turned back before venturing on the road when we came along.  We also experienced killer conkers being hurled at us from above having been shaken off by the headwind we enjoyed all the way to The Compasses.
Some discussion about the Christmas Do was had with Tomsk.  OD will no doubt report upon the outcome of the meeting and begin notifying everyone what they have been volunteered for in their absence.

Heard there is a compasses at pattiswick but it has something called a wine list :o

I'm pretty sure you've been there... didn't you ride out to the freeze-yer-bits-off pub with us?  The Compasses was the first port of call where I had to change over my ludicrously worn brake blocks.  (The pub we visited before it started raining biblically on us).

(It's always possible I'm getting my rides mixed up, but I think it was that one).

Spooling back to Wednesday night ...

The Christmas Do was discussed and decisions were made.  Please refer to post #78 HERE

We also discussed Hummer's idea of a cultural exchange between the various yacf pub ride groups scatters across our sceptered isle.  I have posted the outcome of our deliberations in the thread started by His Hummerness.  Post #10 is the one you need.

Check out this thread re the cultural exchange.  A date has been mooted.  What do we think?

Somewhere in south London is being discussed, should all be in the thread.

Also off-topic and perhaps one for the Little Book of Big Ideas, but I'll drop it in here - there is a cycle jumble at Leaden Roding village hall on Saturday 23rd November, 09:00 to 12:30. Run by SPOCO SE [time trials] so tt/racing orientated stuff mostly, I guess, but the write-up for last year mentions BACON, so worth a ride out for a cuppa and sarnie?

Pick up one of those TT pointy hats, cover it in tinsel and fairy lights and that's your costume for the Christmas Do sorted!

Could this be one of our number?  Possibly Tomsk, or perhaps Oaky.  That hand injury could just be a cunning ruse  ;D

Yesterday we pedalled past The Horse & Groom, Galleywood.  It might make an excellent MEMWNS venue, perhaps this coming Wednesday evening?  The route from Witham affords us some excellent Comedy Off-roading opportunities  :demon:

What do we think?

I'm up for C.O.R. - perhaps if I can meet you all somewhere en-route, otherwise I'll just head straight there via Chelmo.
