Wind has come early (i.e. now) and I think it'll be back to normal levels by tomorrow afternoon, yeah.  Looking forward to catching up.
Will be leaving Tiptree around 11 to get over there in good time.

I'll be driving over as I need to get home afterwards a bit quicker than cycling would take me.  Aiming to be there by 1pm unless Tom wants to leave earlier.

Yes, wind probably not quite as bad tomorrow - this morning we had it quite hard at times coming back to Dunmow, and stronger this afternoon.

Should be ready to leave some time after 13:00.

Great I'll park where you suggested and be ready with the bike around 1300

Well that was a good afternoon out. A game of two halves, out with a tailwind and in sunshine at times, 40 minutes in the Golden Lion ['spoons now do a cream tea for £2.99!] then back into a stonking headwind, lowering skies and [eventually] rain, from about Ashdon onwards. Full 'proofs on at Thaxted Guildhall. Thanks to Phil W and riche for the company and towing duties.

DOTD: an unidentified rider in Linton [chasing a KOM?] who decided to cut up my inside and nearly got run into the kerb.  ::-) He's gone in the notebook.

A pint and toasted panini and chips and change from £5, can't fault the Wetherspoons for value and beer was good. That headwind was something on the way back.  Think we did well to avoid the worst of the rain till the end. It was absolutely filthy on the way home, after leaving Tom's. (Thanks for the tea before I headed off)

I'm in for the 200. Planning on cycling to the start, so a bit of brekkie will be much appreciated. Going for the Essex SR now!
Bikes are for riding, not cleaning!

There will be some changes at Snetterton this year: the café [Lady Moe's] and model shop remain closed, with no prospect of re-opening in the short term. I've been in touch with the management at the main circuit and they are happy for us to use 'Tyrrell's Restaurant'. It's a track day at the circuit on 12th so a good chance for closet petrol-heads to get their fix, as there is no entry fee and the public spectating areas are all open, including the pits.

The one request from the management is that we have stewards to direct riders and arrange sensible cycle-parking, so there will be a sizeable family cohort, in hi-viz, to sort everyone out as well as stamp cards etc. On this Saturday's helpers ride I'll look for likely places to put up a few arrows, as there is a fairly complex area of car parks to negotiate.

The self service restaurant does basic hot food, sandwiches and other snacks. Some outside picnic benches, but plenty of room indoors, even if busy with drivers and crew [much, much busier on a full-on race day]. However, the bar won't be open, for obvious reasons...

We're riding the helpers' ride tomorrow — it's looking like a gentle headwind for the first 100km, strengthening to a decent tailwind for the return leg, it should be fun

I'm ECEing it from Cambridge, same as last year — 55km there, 75km back = more than 322km === 200+ miles     Last year I even went further than teethgrinder for a single day  :smug:

I gather there are far fewer of us on the helpers' ride this year, without royalty along for the ride.

We're at just over half the numbers at this stage, compared to last year - the PBP factor, as well as the absence of Teethgrinder, who popped up a number of times on my events...

In that manic time before the start, breakfast, brevet cards and car parking are the main issues and many helpers are kindly coming over a bit early to assist, then riding at the appointed hour.

Yesterday I met Tom riding his helpers ride / route check in Sapiston yesterday whilst riding the opposite way on a Nick Wilkinson perm.  We discussed how nice it was in the sun and lanes. I hope the weather is as glorious as yesterday if not a little warmer. I'll be supporting my wife running in a New Forest event, so won't be there on the 12th.

For the first time this year, dry roads, sun, tailwind  ...bit parky though!

With three start times/schedules for the helpers and the 4 permanent riders, we were spread over 2 hours, but pretty much maintained the same separation. Total elapsed times were within minutes of each other, though some had more quality 'down time'. Well done everyone and commiserations to tedshred for his DNF: gears catastrophe  :o

Route sheets and information for both events amended, updated, & uploaded to AUKweb. I'll be emailing and posting stuff out to riders this week. Still time to get your entry in...

I've just sent the latest version to Tom, which I tested on Saturday.  You can also download it here:  http://www.camaudax.uk/rides/horsepower-200/389g-2016-02-28.zip.  Let me know if you spot anything amiss.

I'm in. Looking forward to this. Haven't ridden this route before and it's a while since I've been on a calendar ride.
Tomsk - will try and get over early to help with any chores or tasks.
