Hey, I was just wondering... What does TLC stands for? Also thinking about entering :)

I am tempted to enter, I really want to give it a go and my plan would be to do the 200Km to Upton Magna and see how things are, whether to do the next 100Km or rest a while and wend my way back to the start but dnf the 400Km.

I suppose some cream and another pair of shorts in the saddle bag may be in order.

Edit, I think you have hit the nail right on the head Oggy, it's a confidence issue as I've only done 200Km max before and this is twice the distance and possibly twice the pain. The pain issues I had was both bruising from the saddle and chaffing of the pants making a sore rash. I'm sure we all know this.
My first 400 was the National 2 years ago with no more than a couple of 200 and 100 behind me.  Do not underestimate the extra power you will get from fully staffed controls.  You do not have to think what to eat someone will probably stick a plate in front of you. If you fall asleep face in plate someone will make sure you are still breathing but know where you are coming form.  If you burst into tears others in the room will know where you are :) since they have been there too.  If you talk of packing they will give you weevil words that help you get up and out to the next control.

In terms of sores and bruises I get a lot of these, I am on Warfarin so gets quite dramatic at times.  Chaffing can be avoided with the right cream.  Bruising minimised by standing in the pedals more often.  Pain killers can help too...but it is the support that makes the difference.

Makes me  😂 slowly being swayed into it.

TLC = Tender Loving Care = controls with other AUK and supporters volunteering to prepare and serve up food, sort out bedding and a place to lie down,  at controls, wipe tears from your face and if necessary bore you with stories to the point that you flee the comfort of the hall and carry on cycling. :)  The National 400 has a lot of that.  It is the opposite of X rated.

Oh dear,

I was going to wait until I'd done my first 200km at the weekend before I pulled the trigger, but I seem to have just booked myself a place on this one.

Should be interesting.

Well that's both of us buggered, just got paid, just entered. Now I'll just have to mtfu and get some miles in the next 4 weeks. Yikes!

Only 4 sleeping spaces left at Biggin Village Hall so get your skates on if you want one.
When they're gone entries will still be open but you'll need to book camping/B&B whatever if you coming up on the Friday.
94 'in' so far.

Would it be possible to arrive at 22:00 and sleep in the car before hand?

Tempted to do this just for the food at the controls ;-) did someone mention cake as well?

Rich...

Is there any particular time we need to arrive ?  I've booked a bed but I doubt if I'll be able to get there much before 11pm.

Late arrival shouldn't be a problem as long as you let us know you're going to be late.  Otherwise we'll think you're a no-show and give your bed to somebody else.

Will there be anywhere for a snooze after the event? Just an hour or so before driving home... or its the back seat of the Renault for me...

We have the Hall booked 'til 12 noon and the beds will still be there so should be OK. Maybe a bit noisy tho'!

All the accommodation places at Biggin Village Hall have now been taken.  :o :( :'(
If you're desperate we could probably find you a bit of floor to lie on but no bed. Otherwise its sleep in your car  or book in somewhere.

Just to be clear if you've not replied to the entry-acknowledgment email specifically asking for accommodation then you're not booked in.

After one flat 300, and lots of hesitation, I finally entered last night. And just in time for the last Friday night bed.

I'm intending to use up all 27 hours and get full value so I have one question.

Is the lanterne rouge supplied or do I need to supply my own?

I hope, as you're cycling at night, you've already got one  ;D

No need to worry. I'll be dragging the official lanterne rouge behind the Pashley.

Remember folks, the idea is to 'have a good time' not to 'do a good time'.
I'd better organise my railway ticket.

Ahh! this is about value for money.  In the case of Wobbly it may also about style over function
