A wisdom tooth is trying to break through and has been for theast day. I'm being reminded why teething toddlers can get so grumpy.

On the basis that toddlers probably have the right idea, gnawing on the handle of a wooden spoon helped with mine.

Bah.
Why do things like washing machines choose the most inconvenient time to die?

We're off on holliberries tomorrow, and we were doing a load of washing this afternoon.
The machine packed in mid-way through the cycle.
Extracted the wet load, and Mrs. F took it round to my brother's house to finish it up whilst I had at the machine.

Error E40 .. Tappity-tap... Hmm, door interlock failure.
Strip it down.
Hmm, the cable loom connector is badly burned where it connects to the interlock module.
<Orders new interlock module and cable assembly.>
If the push came to the shove, I could just cut off the burned connector and solder the wires directly onto the parts of the interlock assembly.

Interesting thing, the interlock assembly.
I expected it to be just a simple solenoid, with a contact to sense the position.
But no.
It's a wee ceramic heater pressed against a bi-metallic strip which pushes the locking pin out.
And a curious ratchet-wheel with ramps on it which is rotated by a solenoid repeatedly prodding it which retracts the locking pin.
A most curious design.
Presumably to allow it to fail-open after removing power for a few minutes.

I'd wondered how they worked (beyond "something fiendishly clever and mechanical"), but not to the point of spending more time dismantling a broken washing machine than I had to...

My washing machine has also died. It is flashing 'door' which last time meant that the brushes on the motor had gone. Bits on their way. I haven't summoned the enthusiasm to open it up and threatenit with a screwdriver prior to the arrival of the spares.

Just looked at the weather forecast for the next month.  The only day that hasn't got rain or snow against it has "0/6°C Dreary".
I've dusted off all those old bottles and set them up straight

Motor-car!

Plz not to be lowering and raising passenger window at random.  It's cold outside and it makes it harder to hear the wireless.

OK, so the front passenger seat seatbelt warning light sometimes doesn't. Or when it does it shouldn't. And the seatbelt pretensioner warning light is about as decisive as an indecisive thing after a severe beating about the head. And the front passenger airbag warning light lies.

I take the front seat out and untie all the magic anbaric knots and retie them and put the seat back. Result? NFC :demon:

Send cage off to cage repairers. They plug in their guru which says Body Control Unit is borked. That will be £518 to replace all in says the guru operator but we have to order the thing as we don't hold it in stock so we can't fix before Wednesday at the earliest. I says OK, I'll pick the car up in a mo. He says fine but you will have to pay for the part in advance as it is a SPECIAL THING.

I arrives at the cage repairers and the guru supervisor says hello here is your car. That will be the cost of the part plus £60 for the honour of us telling you you have to spend over £500 :o

You mean you aren't including the diagnostic cost in the cost of the repair?

No.

So bored with my body not working.  Between my knackered feet and my protesting lungs my life is just work, eat, sleep, and has been for bloody months.  Woke up this morning feeling positive, energetic and motivated.  Which was great till I went outside in the cold.  Haven't been able to breathe since.  Blasted buggery bollocksing arsebuckets.  I can't even go for a walk.  Bah.  Grump.
Milk please, no sugar.

Another hug from here Ruthie. It's warming up a bit the next few days so hopefully your lungs should feel a bit better (provided we don't all smother you with hugs ;D)

Forgot me own grumble the while: Turned on the kitchen hot-tap this morning and steam came out.  Thermostat gone west. Plumber, natch, will be off skiing for two weeks.  Fortunately nothing has sundered. So far.

"Transmission" warning light in car is coming on intermittently - as in every week or so. Car dealer service department admits their mechanics don't have a clue why. They've checked the most likely causes. Honda's diagnostic database is down, & Honda HQ is shut until Monday (or Sunday night, our time). New Year is the biggest holiday in Japan. So we have to wait.

I thought of taking bets on what the real cause is, but Mrs B doesn't like the idea.

At least the car's working - so far. And it's covered by the warranty.
