Bikehike error message moving .tcx to Garmin305
« on: 06 August, 2010, 11:27:09 am »
I am trying to move a .tcx file from bikehike onto my Garmin305. I know the PC is talking to the Garmin because I can transfer the route and it only messes up when I add coursepoints. It fails to transfer the files and gives me the following error message:

Code: [Select]
Exception: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="no" ?>

  </Error>

</ErrorReport>

I'm lost as to what's happening, so any ideas what's happening? (I've got less than 100 course points so that shouldn't be the problem.)

Ta.

[Edit] I had some "danger" course points in the route telling me where the info controls where on the ride. If I remove these "danger" course points the file is happily transfer to the Garmin, so clearly the problem is to do with those specific course points.
What on earth am I doing here on this beautiful day?! This is the only life I've got!!

I once did a label in Bikehike of "Mum & Dad" and discovered, after trial and error, that it didn't like the ampersand. Perhaps there's something similar in your Danger coursepoints.

Are you using the latest version of the Garmin Communicator Plugin? I think some of the older versions were a bit buggy.

Why not save the tcx file onto your desktop first?  Then transfer from pc to 305

Cheers for the replies. Helen may have the answer because some of my coursepoints did contain the ampersand symbol.

Basically because I've only just started using a GPS and this is the method I was shown. If that's an easier / more reliable method than I'll start doing so.

It's the method I use with the 705... easy as.  If you can see your GPX folder of your 305 on your PC they I don't see why not.  It also means you have a copy of the gpx on your harddrive

The Edge 305 doesn't work as a USB mass storage device, so this won't work.
You could use GPSBabel to send the TCX file to the Edge, this will probably work better than the Commicator plugin.
