As I have spent much of the last two weeks laying on my back unable to move (or, more likely unwilling to move due to the pain) I regret that this may be a long post...
My first grumble is aimed at my own body.... look, I know you are getting on a bit and frankly, I haven't always taken care of you in the way I should have, but is there any need to treat me to a dose of sciatica in my left hip and leg? I mean all I did was walk 12 miles over a couple of days, swim a mile and cycle 30. None of that is that excessive. Is it?
And then, just when the fun had stopped, did you really need to get gout in my right foot meaning both legs were out of action? And now, while the right foot is feeling a little better, did you really need to start an outbreak in my left foot? So now, I have both sciatica and gout in the same foot!
Moving on to painkiller manufacturers. How about inventing something what works?! I have tried all of the over the counter stuff with no luck so held out great hope for the prescription stuff the emergency GP gave me...yes, that's right, I went to see a GP as an emergency as....well lets put it this way, not being able to poo for five days is very extreme for me.... who gave me Naproxen which they said is five times stronger than anything I could buy over the counter.... nope, that doesn't work for me either.
And next, the NHS website....yes, I am strong believer in the NHS and would fight to my last breath to keep it, I must grumble at their website...yes, exercising with sciatica is undoubtedly the thing to do, but how can you when you can't move!
Right, moving on....or not as the case actually is. I now wish to grumble about how much choice there is!
CBH and I decided that now might be the good time to get a new mattress so took a look online to find one. There must be at least 200 000 different types on sale. It took us hours to find one which suited our price and requirements (more on this in a second). Why do we need so much choice? Why can't there be a limited number of price points: cheap, reasonable, expensive and blimey you spent how much to choose from. And then of course, do we need as many manufacturers as well? One will do. The rest can transfer over to making tractors or something.
Returning to requirements, it seems that there is a five grade firmness ratings for mattress ranging from Soft to very firm. So, how comes when you buy a medium mattress what you get is a lump of granite. Why not actually give the deflection rate against a set weight so those of us who can use such measurements will get what we want.
It got worse when I spent time looking at buying a Drone to take on holiday with me.... I am sure there are 7.5 billion different versions out there. Look, all I want is something which will take off, do some flying, come back to me when I call and doesn't cost the Earth (I mean that in both ways). No doubt to find the ideal item, I would need to spend a month researching the matter, no doubt only to find that that version has been discontinued.
And then, lastly as I need to go and lay down as the pain is excessive again... there is the fact that I spent several hundred pounds on a new set of bike wheels. This resulted in a discussion between CBH and I whether I needed new wheels. Sadly I was not able to convince her that want and need are the same thing to some cyclists. The wheels are still in their box unopened as the garage is still too far away on these feet.
Thinking about it a bit further, perhaps me spending money on something I wanted rather than needed the cause of this pain as Karma gets her own back....
Sorry for any typos. I'll clean up later.
