I dream of putting a sign on an ATM, reading "This machine uses vocal recognition: please state your PIN loudly and clearly" then watching to see how many people comply.
I've dusted off all those old bottles and set them up straight

I failed to separate a cassette from a wheel earlier. So I need to find someone with a vice / bigger spanner / more strength tomorrow. Tomorrow is already too full.

Just been reading local news on latest update of a case of road rage involving a baseball bat which I witnessed the police mopping up last year.  Bat wielder now sent down having failed to comply with his suspended sentence rules.

Why are there so many baseball bats in circulation in this country when no-one is playing the game? ???

Having spent the last 3 days steering my 81 year old mother & my sister around That London I’m feeling a bit  grumbly.  I nearly lost them on the rush hour tube when the door closed in my face, but annoyingly they were waiting for me 2 stops down

"What" said the Fiscal, "could have caused this injury?"
"Something large and blunt." said I.
"Turn round." he said. "Could this have done it?"

Behind me was a log or pole, about 5 inches in diameter and as long as I was tall...

As I have spent much of the last two weeks laying on my back unable to move (or, more likely unwilling to move due to the pain) I regret that this may be a long post...

My first grumble is aimed at my own body.... look, I know you are getting on a bit and frankly, I haven't always taken care of you in the way I should have, but is there any need to treat me to a dose of sciatica in my left hip and leg? I mean all I did was walk 12 miles over a couple of days, swim a mile and cycle 30. None of that is that excessive. Is it?

And then, just when the fun had stopped, did you really need to get gout in my right foot meaning both legs were out of action? And now, while the right foot is feeling a little better, did you really need to start an outbreak in my left foot? So now, I have both sciatica and gout in the same foot!

Moving on to painkiller manufacturers. How about inventing something what works?! I have tried all of the over the counter stuff with no luck so held out great hope for the prescription stuff the emergency GP gave me...yes, that's right, I went to see a GP as an emergency as....well lets put it this way, not being able to poo for five days is very extreme for me.... who gave me Naproxen which they said is five times stronger than anything I could buy over the counter.... nope, that doesn't work for me either.

And next, the NHS website....yes, I am strong believer in the NHS and would fight to my last breath to keep it, I must grumble at their website...yes, exercising with sciatica is undoubtedly the thing to do, but how can you when you can't move!

Right, moving on....or not as the case actually is. I now wish to grumble about how much choice there is!

CBH and I decided that now might be the good time to get a new mattress so took a look online to find one. There must be at least 200 000 different types on sale. It took us hours to find one which suited our price and requirements (more on this in a second). Why do we need so much choice? Why can't there be a limited number of price points: cheap, reasonable, expensive and blimey you spent how much to choose from. And then of course, do we need as many manufacturers as well?  One will do. The rest can transfer over to making tractors or something.

Returning to requirements, it seems that there is a five grade firmness ratings for mattress ranging from Soft to very firm. So, how comes when you buy a medium mattress what you get is a lump of granite. Why not actually give the deflection rate against a set weight so those of us who can use such measurements will get what we want.

It got worse when I spent time looking at buying a Drone to take on holiday with me.... I am sure there are 7.5 billion different versions out there. Look, all I want is something which will take off, do some flying, come back to me when I call and doesn't cost the Earth (I mean that in both ways). No doubt to find the ideal item, I would need to spend a month researching the matter, no doubt only to find that that version has been discontinued.

And then, lastly as I need to go and lay down as the pain is excessive again... there is the fact that I spent several hundred pounds on a new set of bike wheels. This resulted in a discussion between CBH and I whether I needed new wheels. Sadly I was not able to convince her that want and need are the same thing to some cyclists. The wheels are still in their box unopened as the garage is still too far away on these feet.

Thinking about it a bit further, perhaps me spending money on something I wanted rather than needed the cause of this pain as Karma gets her own back.... :(

Sorry for any typos. I'll clean up later.

GWS matey.

Being on your back for a fortnight must be sould destroying. A few days was bad enough for me.

Choice- matress/ drone/ whatever. I blame the internet. Back in the day, you would go to a bed shop or a drone shop or two and make your choice based on what they had. Nowadays? Bingle will land a shitload of choices on your screen (along with the odd Rampant Rabbit or Cyalis/ Viagra option).

MrsC and I bought a mattress online (that is to say, she bought a mattress online).

That was a waste of money.

When she was due to go in for a major op, and would be spending much time convalescing, I convinced her:
A) we needed a replacement
B) she should go to places that sold mattresses and try them.
C) sod the cost

Result was a mattress that suited us.

Apparently - and this came as news to me - some people find that painkillers actually kill pain.

Paracetamol does nothing for pain, but works as an antipyretic, and I'm undecided on whether NSAIs do much (there's only so much my digestive system can tolerate, and you can't be scientific about how much they affect healing with a population on 1).  Opiates can be effective at relaxing tension that's contributing to musculoskeletal pain, and in really high does help you time-travel through the pain.  Dissociatives work in much the same way - by turning your perception of reality into laggy low-bitrate RealVideo, the effect of pain is reduced along with everything else.  But I've never had a painkiller that actually reduced pain directly.  So my general approach to painkillers that it's either bad enough that large doses of codeine seem like a good idea, or not worth bothering - I tend to take first-line stuff purely because it stops me being nagged.

GWS, anyway.

Codeine gets my vote for extreme pain, otherwise I tend not to bother and let the body deal with it.  I'm on the cusp of pain relief with my back at the moment

Only for today. And if it's been a horrible day, maybe that's what you needed.
Hope tomorrow is less horrible and better from the diet point of view.

Who on earth pays £28 A MONTH to play a casual gaming game? And on top of that you can also spend another £20 for bonus in game coins?

I like casual gaming, and have on occasion paid a fiver for a game I’m enjoying and want to play sans adverts however, I never buy in game purchases to make it easier to progress. If, As has happened, a level is too difficult to get passed without buying in game coins, I stop playing and find another favourite.

But the latest weeze seems to be subscription to squash the adverts, and I am not going to pay a subscription of >£5 per week, in fact I’m not going to buy any subscription, so it’s a case of playing for as long as I can put up with the ads I suppose. One game I really like at the moment has ads and there is no way to mute the ads unless you mute the whole phone, which is really annoying.

This all seems a bit immoral to me as well, because it’s essentially preying on the weaker members of society, who are often also the poorer ones.

I got a pair of Stonewall "Be LBGTQ+ sport friendly" (or somthing like that) in a race goody bag so I put them in a pair of running shoes because 1) being Friendly is a Good Thing and 2) they are nice and (rainbow) colourful. It turns out that they don't stay done up very well so I might have to go back to the laces that came with the shoes.

I admit 9, a bit of an Apple fanboy, and on the whole I think the walled garden is a GOOD THING ™, but Apple’s policy of not allowing content purchase on Amazon apps (Kindle, Audible, Prime Video) is not only very annoying, its also pointless because it doesn’t actually stop me buying Amazon content on my Apple device.

Ebay seller, selling a bike that my daughter is interested in purchasing.

Lists two different frame sizes in the advert. Can't see label giving size in photos. Seller doesn't respond to messages.

Bike isn't sold, so they relist it. Still not responding to message. FFS, do you want to sell or not?
