Witham 100km, 150km and 200km Audaxes Sunday 18th April 2010
« on: 07 April, 2010, 05:50:43 am »
Just a  plug - Ed Nevard is once again running these long standing events from Woodham Mortimer. I'm told a good weather forecast is booked - come along and roam the lovely Essex countryside yet again - you know you want to!

I have been thinking about the 100k, but will be turning up on the day if I do and hope spaces still available.
Has anyone got a route for this?

I want to, I do. But that would mean an audax every weekend in April; a not entirely equitable arrangement with the Powers That Be.

Oh boy  :(

Is it time to start my Audax season and RRTY attempt again?

On the one hand I can't face cycling... but on the other hand Ed's 200 is a fantastic ride  :-\

The Moth tandem should be making an appearance on the 150.

I'm doing the 200, for the 1st time in ages, [did the 100 though, last year with no. 1 son.] Combined with another ECE 100km via Ingatestone as part of my Fixed Wheel Challenge madness, should be a grand day out.

Entered the 200 - shamed by my riding buddy Julian who is 10 years or more older, & was determined to enter. Not sure if I can still do a 200.
Where have all the hedges gone ?

I don't know if Ed accepts late (or on-the-day) entries but since i've now got a pass for Sunday, I've just emailed him to ask if I can enter the 200, and will get my form ready to send off or bike courier round to him tomorrow if he's happy with that.

I'm probably going to struggle - the last time I rode more than 30 miles in one go was probably September last year.

It is a lovely ride though.  I hope I'm able to enter.

(EDIT:  I've just heard back from Ed and will be entering  :))

I'm planning to EOL for the 100k ride with a couple of others ( A father & son)

I'll be the fat one in the Ferryhill Wheelers kit going slow on the flat and slower on the hills

I'm creating a GPS route from the route sheet if anyone wants a copy

as expected the trains are mucked up, bus service from Billeracy to
Chelmsford; would have to ride from Wickford to WM 10 miles as well as
riding over to Three Bridges to get up to London.

I'll bring the car  :( but it gives me an excuse to get the light
non-mudguard bike out of hibernation so it will fit into the little car.

(I feel another thread coming on about the cost of getting to events in these days of £1.20+ / l fuel)

Will do.

I'll probably be in a red yACF short-sleeved jersey (although it may be cunningly disguised with arm-warmers and gilet until it warms up a bit!).

(EDIT: and for those on the ride - I'll be gasping round on a grey/brownish Felt z70 with minimal luggage and mismatched gear cables -- do say hello - it's great to meet other yACFers on these events).

I'm guessing there aren't a huge number of mother & son combos riding out, but I'll be in some variety of pink & pigtails.
No1Son will not.

I'll be the one on the yellow Trek and matching everything constantly taking wrong turns and fiddling with a GPS; Ed assures me that the route is nothing like last year but it looks identical to the one I got off Bikely

I reckon Emily and I might be instantly recognizable if we're the only ones riding the 150!

...but just in case, we'll be on a black tandem.

I had a quick scan last night and as far as I can see, the difference (apart from the location of the info controls) seems to be an extra little loop north of Monk's Eleigh.  Other than that it looks like some signpost stuff a=has been clarified, and the early section through Wickham Bishops etc. has been marked "NCR" which I assume indicates "National Cycle Route".

From memory - I think it used to do this in 2009, but now does this in 2010.

As mentioned though this is from memory, so don't program GPS or take a wrong turn on the basis of what I have posted!

Not sure which bikely route you found, but I did this one for the 2009 route.  Again any errors in that are mine alone.

yes that's the one; very thorough complete with fully annotated waypoints   I've made a mental note of the info locations; and of course I'll have the paper route sheet in a back pocket; I've yet to take the plunge and rely just on the GPS for a calendar event.

I had the 2009 route down as a spit short of distance - so that may be why the extra loop and info is in.
Damn - that means I cant reuse 2009 - without fudging it a bit.

so where is the extra loop compared to 2009? presumably up to an info?

really looking forward to this ride; my first real calendar 200 since November; also covers ground I did on my (sadly now gone) first 600

Martin and F'buzz - you're both right - the top of the 200km route now goes up to an info Brettenham way, to legalise the minimum distance. It's nice territory!
