Eccleshall 200, May 03
« on: 12 April, 2010, 11:32:53 am »
I've just entered for this event from Stockport, run by Mike Wigley.  Is anybody else doing it from around here?

I did this last year as my first and, so far, only audax.
It turned out to be a long day but good training for Vatternrundan.
It's a good route.
Not sure about this year- I've only got the MTB at the moment, albeit on road wheels/tyres, and 70 miles on it recently was painful.

I think I already know what Helen's answer will be  ;)

I may also do it if I have no family commitments over the bank holiday - which looks likely.

Just entered, booked the day off work (I have to give 28 days notice to contract out of Bank Holidays!). Bit pricey tho', three quid  :o

Wish all organisers would get with the Paypal stuff - it's super

PayPal and downloading of route sheets makes life a lot easier for all I'd think - unless you did not have a computer! And for the GPS crowd a the downloading of the route  ;D

Mike your leading the way ;) ;)

I'm riding it so don't be late at the start otherwise you will have to catch me up for your brevet card

I don't think I've been late for one of your events before, have I?  Okay, I've ridden your perm after turning up late for Winston's event and I turned up to Peter's event 10 minutes late, but I wouldn't dream of being late to one of yours!

I've no idea who you are Lady T, although your icon does remind me of a certain Grocer's daughter.  I've looked at your profile and can't imagine which AUK member lives in that rather nice house at the top of the Mall (which I presume is a shopping street in London so perhaps you live over a shop).  But I wasn't trying to cast any aspersions.

In fact, you've now made me feel a little uneasy.  I know there are some who don't think that an Organiser can ride their own event and I think the rules allow for someone to leave the start any time up to an hour later than the official start time.  They would need to get a move if they are not to be timed out at the first control.

Late starters can always collect till receipts as they ride round trying to catch up with their brevet card in my saddle bag

... and your reference to arriving late at Winston's event does indeed give me a clue who you really are!

Mike, I was born in the same county as Our Great Leader and one of my parents did the same degree as she did, but I am sadly not her and nor am I Che Guevara.  If the film is to be believed, he preferred bicycles of the motorised variety.  My current pad is very comfortable, thankyou very much.  I do in fact live in a white house, just like my good friend Barry O over in DC in the US of A.

I have posted my entry/cheque/sae's so that if circumstances conspire favourably I can do the ride.
If not I will save the route for some other time.

I received my route sheet today.

Apparently, "You may wish to control at Bunbury Co-op".

That sounds good to me  :D

Got my route sheet today.I am pleasantly suprised about how much of the route is familiar to me & chuffed at the prospect of riding those parts that are not known to me.

Posted entry yesterday so hoping I'm in before Peak Audax website's deadline...

But will be using this as Active Recovery post Wiggy 300, in my current post-viral-asthmatic state  - you should be able to here me wheezing all around Cheshire! :o

Hoping for warmer weather - Wednesday's commute to Warrington at 7am was +1deg C in full winter kit! Today was a balmy +4deg.
PBP 2011: 1234 km by Nr. 5678 in < 90 hrs. Most auspicious...

That's a pity, hopefully we'll still see you on the Wiggy 100 two days before?

[EDIT: Ah, I see not.  Oh well, bad luck.]
