I reckon St. George's Day would be a good one. I could bring a leek.

It's all these holidays I booked for myself.

Actually, I can just see you wearing mail and draped in the Flag, OD. This sounds like a must-do... ;D

It's the same day that King Charles II of England, Scotland and Ireland was crowned in Westminster Abbey, 1661.

You've clearly survived hibernation. Welcome back Del. I remember the Blue Peter team putting their tortorise in a straw filled box each year. Did you undergo the same process?

23rd April.

When Gentlemen of England Now Abed
Will think themselves accursed they were not there.

(That was actually St. Crispin's Day whenever that is).

Edit: I've just googled St. Crispin's Day and discovered it's Mrs. Wow's birthday. I reckon I'd have probably stayed in bed.

Oooh!  April 23rd?  How fortuitous -- mrs_o was planning to turf me out for the evening anyway that day.

Guess that's me signed up for an outing on the Turkish patron Saint's day.  Are kebabs on the menu?

Can we find a decent "Dragon" named pub somewhere convenient for all?  The only one I've been to is the Green Dragon at Young's End between Gt. Leighs and Gt. Notley.

We did ride past a "George and Dragon" pub/restaurant last Weds, just north of Kelvedon, but it looked a bit posh and restaurant-y for a bunch of sweaty cyclists to arrive at for one of these events.  There is apparently another George and Dragon at Mountnessing, but that also looks food-oriented and posh.  :-\

... Googling around, there's also a "the George" pub at Shalford, but that's maybe bit too far North for our Southenders.

I've not been in there for a year or so, but the Green Dragon at Youngs End is/was very good.

The Green Dragon, Youngs End is the HQ of the Mid-Essex National Cycle Network Ranger Group of which I hold the office of Benign Dictator.  More than happy to go there.

Found the place on the web.  I don't think we're quite what the owners had in mind when they spent the £thousands they have clearly spent on the place.  However, I might let The Current Mrs R take me there one day.

I say chaps and ladies, the next ride is THIS FRIDAY , I've got my pass and I'm raring to go.  Thus far the venue is the Green Dragon at Youngs End (near Braintree, CM77 8QN), the venue was chosen cos it's St George's Day.  However, I personally don't mind a change of venue that suits people better.

I'm in.

Happy with the Green Dragon, or elsewhere1.

Need to find some appropriate St Georges tat to adorn myself/bike with.

As usual, I'll b settign off either form Witham at ~19:15 or from Chelmsford at 19:00, dependign on venue/route.

1. There's a small chance that I'll be on-call that evening, so would need to be within one hour's rush in distance from home (that hour could be riding time or rail+ride though...).

I'll be coming from work -- do you think a hacksaw will be enough to help me bag one of these?:-

Will my 36h, sputnik rimmed,  Spa-built rear wheel take it?

It's too cold for sandals today.

I wore mine a couple of days ago but it was warmer then. Sunday and Monday are looking hopeful for the sandals experience again, but I expect to be in my boots for a couple more days.

I, too, am a possible for the Ride to the Pub this Friday (although I may be at the pub when you arrive, rather than riding with you all to it), but it depends on dog-sitting duties.

My Lake SPD sandals have turned up.

They would be completely inappropriate wear for St Georges day.

ditto denim rainlegs.
