Edge 705 and editing GPX files
« on: 12 November, 2015, 01:13:36 pm »
Firstly hello as this is my first post on the forum although I have been lurking for a while

I have Garmin edge 705 which works well but gives a few problems when using long GPX files.  If I load the file for a 200km Audax it takes a long time for the edge to load the file ready for navigation. Once it’s loaded I have no further problems.
Next year I have plans to do some longer events and the GPX files for 200km+ audax’s are too big as a single for file and I need to break the file down into sections.  However most organisers only offer a single GPX file
Can anyone recommend any software or technique to break the file down?

You can use Garmin's Basecamp to split the GPX track and/or reduce the number of points in the track.

Hello IJL, welcome aboard

Another option ( to be used with caution, but works mostly) is to reduce the number of points, this is easy to do using GPSies (http://www.gpsies.com/convert.do), you need to open the twistie and select "Track Simplification"
