Stories like this remind me why I always sleep fully clothed when camping  ;)

Well after joining the camping and caravanning club we went off to the site at Ashbourne on monday and came back today.

We were the only tenters there and it was pretty windy! Had to alter the tent a bit because a pole was bending a tad funny. The tent is getting very thin in places and we have already had to sew a few bits up. Nothing special but its got us away for a few nights 8)

Don't question. It makes people angry.

That's usually special enough for me ;D
Was the campsite up to expectations?

Campsite was great. I've stayed on campsites all over Europe and in bits of England but that's mainly been in a caravan. So camping was different. The site facilities were very clean, showers nice and hot and it was quiet.
We got told we must be very brave for camping then though. The wind even pushed a caravan awning against a caravan. It was only a lightweight porch awning rather then a more substantial one though.
Could quite reccomend the site. I'd be happy with a farmers field but the GF(who took some persuading to go camping) wanted showers and toilets.
To top it all we can't wait till we are next away in the tent!

Cool :D
We get some funny looks from site wardens when we camp in winter in rain/wind/snow/hail, but we always have fun. :)

New toy, in use for the first time in Shropshire last weekend.

Both doors folded back, so you can't see the porch area.

Have you sold the Shangri-La, then?

No, it's in the cupboard with the Akto.  As I've previously posted I've never been 100% happy at not having a proper porch in the Shangri La.

This chap is making a 1/2 size inner for it though.. I'm quite tempted OookWorks

I bought the MSR Hubba in a sale at the back end of last year, it's an experiment. If I don't like it I won't be too much out of pocket if I sell it on.

Are those tents far enough apart to deaden the sounds of a little ladylike night breathing?

I thought I'd go somewhere peaceful to get away from the Royal Wedding and try out the new tent

Didn't see a single soul for 2 days not even far away in the valleys
It didn't look at all like that in the photographs

The Cabanon (Betty) will have her first outing this year in 3 weeks' time -- we're off to camp here -- the Black Horse near Stowting (North Downs of Kent) free pitches in the paddock if you eat in the excellent pub. Cannot wait!

Here she is on her Maiden trip last year (a lovely farm in the Blackdown Hills):

We're so un-lightweight we even have a kitchen-type-thing this year!

I'd have fallen in the burn coming out the door - you're pretty close!

The things you find to do when camping a long way from the pub.
My TN Solar 2.2 illuminated by my headtorch and a long exposure

My friends TN Voyager XL illuminated from within, another long exposure.

First nights camp on my "Knot the Royal Wedding tour" to Royal Norfolk. This was the first nights stop at Whaploade Drove. Mine host said you might hear the Cockeril in the morning. It started at 01:45 and repeated every two hours.

Tent sunset at John O'Groats by andygates, on Flickr

One of those photos of opportunity, just as I was pitching, the sun broke through the May Gobs and went all choral.  That's just the inner, of course, the outer was wrapped around my legs like a randy Tesco bag at the time.
It takes blood and guts to be this cool but I'm still just a cliché.

The trusty Hilleberg Akto pitched in the Lofoten Isles, Norway back in 2005.

MSR Hubba HP pitched at Sandwood Bay, NW Scotland on May 19th 2011.

What a fantastic looking pitch.  Not the golf course is it? :demon:
