Help HCX has stopped recording tracks
« on: 11 April, 2017, 08:13:28 am »
After a frustratindg 18 months with a new E30  I took the plunge and soldered the connections between the battery pack and the main gubbins on the old HCX and returned to blissfull prompted navigation of a track.
All went well for 3 or 4 months but after a DIY mandatory route last Friday I found that there was no record of that days rideon the memory card, yesterday I tested it and the same thing happened.
I've checked the settings which are;
Wrap when full is ticked
Record method set to Auto
Interval - More often
Data card - 69% full
Log track to data card is ticked.

I've had a quick shuftie at "Living with a Garmin" but can't see any reason why this has suddenly happened. Can anyone suggest a fix?

IIRC there is a limit to the number of files it can write to the SD card. I discovered this, to my chagrin, when I returned from a tour of Scotland a couple of years ago.

I think you may have it there.
I've just transfered the recorded tracks to the desktop and deleted them from the memory card and a new folder with todays date has appeared on the memory card. Now although that's normal it hasn't happened for the duration of the problem.
Many thanks for your help and I'll try it out tomorrow.

Apparently a limit of 255 GPX files. Or probably less, if you have any other files/folders on the card.
So worth making sure you delete them occasionally.

"The number of files permitted is infinite, where infinity is defined as 255"

You may as well clear them out because (unlike newer models of GPS) the HCx can't make any use of them anyway.  It can write them, then list them - but it can't read them  :facepalm:

Interesting, about that limit - news to me.
