Lousy transport planning - again

A new motorway is being planned between Cambridge and Oxford with five options regarding the route.
A new railway is being planned between Cambridge and Oxford with five options regarding the route for the missing middle bit.

Are they considering working together on a joint project?
No this makes far too much sense.
So..... Double the disruption and double the environmental impact and probably double the cost.

Surely the two forms of transport have different needs? Railways need to visit places of population and new roads don’t, and roads can go up hills. Not that there are huge hills between Oxford and Cambridge!

Given the GRIP process, you don't need to worry about the route of the railway, it won't get built till next century.
Riding a concrete path through the nebulous and chaotic future.
