Ridiculous bargain in Waitrose
« on: 14 October, 2014, 04:52:57 pm »
Currently all Fullers ales are on offer at 4 bottles for £6. This includes their "Golden Champion" which is 8.5% alcohol and normally retails at £2.50 per bottle.

This weekend could get a bit silly...

Isn't that "Golden Pride"?

The only "Golden Champion" ale I know is a Badger Brewery one.

How many have you had already?  :demon:
If it ain't broke, fix it 'til it is...

If it’s Badger’s Golden Champion I’ll be down there like a shot.

I think it is Golden Pride. My apologies for exciting some unnecessarily. It's still an awful lot of alcohohohol for not that many pence.

The offer includes Fullers' London Porter, which IMO has a higher flavour/ethanol ratio than Golden Pride. Sucrose added to the brew may improve keeping quality, but provides ethanol without useful flavour, so I'm always cynical about the virtues of high alcohol content of ale/porter per se.

OT, I suspect that Sainsbury's London Porter (brewed by Shepherd Neame) is closer to a proper 18th century porter than Fullers', though I've not tried brewing anything remotely like that.
