FNRttC York to Hull - Friday 23rd June 2017
« on: 03 May, 2017, 06:33:50 pm »
A quick heads up, that after a gap of a couple of years, the York to Hull ride is back on the calendar.  By an amazing coincidence, there's also some big cycling thing going on in York that weekend as well.  So you could attend both if you wanted to.  And also enjoy the cultural things going on in Hull.

All that, and cycling over the Humber Bridge as well.  Life doesn't get any better.

Nearer the date, I'll add a link for the official sign on form.

After the glorious time had by all on the Shoreham ride, registration for this ride is now open.  It's the first time in 3 years that the FNRttC has gone to Yorkshire.  It's an almost flat 70 mile York to Hull route. There'll be a number of river crossings, including the stunning Humber bridge for anyone who's a fan of bridges. You'll even go below sea level!

Full details and the sign up form can be found here: http://fridaynightridetothecoast.blogspot.co.uk/p/june-23-2017.html

Life doesn't get any better.

This is, I think, my favourite FNRttC.
If you can, ride it. You won't be disappointed.

I can't make it this year because: Holiday. I should have planned better.

Great work from Adam to resurrect this, hope it goes well .

Proprietorial modesty prevents you voting for your own ride (as it does me!) :)
Shame you can't make it. Hope the holiday's a good one!

This ride has an uncanny ability to make some rather dull country (indeed, it passes Britain's most boring OS grid square at one point) come alive.  I reckon a large part of that is down to weather - a clear sky really makes it - and suspect that the ride could easily become type 2 fun if it were properly cold and pish, but traditionally this is the warm tailwind ride and we leave that sort of thing to the other side of the Pennines.  ;)

If I can get a pass out and cycle to York from Hull on the Friday night - via some much less dull country - I'd fancy this, numbers permitting.

Numbers will not be a problem- the more the merrier for this one!

I filled in a FNRTTC York-Hull form as soon as was available:
should I have got an automatic email confirmation message yet, after a few days?
Have I done something wrong and application hasn't gone through?

No automatic reply...and I was one of the very first too! Don't worry about it, that's normal.

When you completed the form, there was an acknowledgement comment which also confirmed you'd get an email about 2 weeks before the ride.

Now I'm in the area I'd love to do this event but I'm already committed to a ride organised by some vintage bicycle enthusiasts in Newbald (about 14 miles out from Hull) which starts at 9am on the Saturday morning and I've committed to a DIY 400 starting on the Sunday night. So I think I'll have to save this for another year.

I'm in, and so are my mam & dad. Goths ride obviously hasn't totally put them off the idea of night riding.

Yes.  First timers have had 2 emails, everyone else has 1, all sent on Sunday night.  There haven't been any bounces, so best check your spam folder.

Make sure you wear something yellow on the ride, as Saturday 24th June is "Wear something Yellow" Day in Hull.  http://www.hulldailymail.co.uk/story-behind-the-yellow-day-billboard-in-spring-bank-west-hull/story-30251198-detail/story.html

That all went well!  34 riders in the end who enjoyed some different roads from last time this was run, with some spectacular scenery, only a short bit of drizzle, and the Humber bridge.  Good job it was mainly a tailwind.  The halfway stop at Garthorpe Village Hall supplied us with lots of food so the FNRttC will definitely try to run this again next year.

Having played host, and transport provider to three participants, whose overall impression was , it sounds like a fun night's cycling.

That was the longest ride I've managed since September. My Achilleses performed flawlessly throughout, and my more recent injuries weren't a problem either. Predictably, lack of riding meant that an easy flat ride left me with aches and pains pretty much everywhere else, and I'm out of practice at the overnight thing, too. But that's easily fixed...

with some spectacular scenery

When was that? Did I blink and miss it?

I've had some issues lately, but something very good happened.

I didn't hate this ride for even a minute!

ETA Mr Smith has pointed out that this ride was full of people from London. Anything counts as scenery compared to that. ;)

Not from London. Nor were a sizeable chunk of the southern contingent.
