My first memory is of him playing opposite Les Dawson, as Cissy & Ada.

Then he became Alec Gilroy in "Corrie".  I can't believe he left the show 20 years ago.

I think he was partly responsible for the golden age of Coronation Street, when it was more of a black comedy, staffed with Northern "turns", than when it started to compete with Eastenders relentless misery.
Some people say I'm self-obsessed but that's enough about them.

I once borrowed his car, a Volvo S60, from the dealership but my Dad didn't buy it. It would barely fit on the drive, never mind fit in the garage and the old boy was a bit paranoid about local scrotes using it for target practice . . .

Well that's the more blunt way of putting it but as usual he's dead right.

Delightful clip of Cissie & Ada on the Radio 2 news.

C: We travelled to Greece with the Wallace Arnold luxury tour...
A: Did you have the shish kebabs?
C: From the moment we got off the coach.
A: ...and did you see the Acropolis?
C: See it? We were never off it!

Pure gold. RIP.
