Playing YouTube tunes without internet access
« on: 30 August, 2017, 08:01:04 am »
This is probably a dumb question. I need to be able to play some Youtube selections in a place where there is no internet access. Normally I just buy from iTunes, download, and create a playlist and that works just great. But these are selections by a family, not available in iTunes. I am confused as there seems to be no downloading option. Help anyone?

There is a Firefox extension to extract an MP3 from a YouTube video and various websites to download videos, no sure I would trust them though.

I have used the 'video2mp3 ' website with success before.

I frequently use a Firefox extension to download Youtube videos. It's very easy.
There's no vibrations, but wait.

I have firefox, what is an 'extension'? and how do I use it to copy the file to my computer. Apologies if this sounds dim.
I can open the youtube link in firefox, but have no idea how to do the next bit!

Under "tools" in the menu bar click on "Add-ons". Then click on "Get Add-ons" then "See more Add-ons". Search for "video download" and you'll find a number of extensions that'll do the job.
After installing whichever you decide you'll find that, when you play a Youtube video, you'll see a button somewhere marked "download" which will probably give you a choice of formats to download in.

Hmmm.
Opened Firefox, found 'add-ons, clicked and then I get the 'loading' message and it seems locked. Alternative approach, found the 'download helper' add-on which seems the most popular, and click on the green 'add to Firefox' button but nothing happens. Any ideas what I am doing working?

Mac?

Try 4K downloader

https://www.4kdownload.com/products/product-videodownloader

Install it,
copy the YouTube URL paste it into 4K downloader,
choose the quality download you want. (You can choose just audio on a video file)
There you are!
It is simpler than it looks.

Use spotify, it's got download ability built in without going to some dodgy warez site. Youtube's meant for videos primarily, not music.

I have managed one of the bits using this! Plus - it went straight into I tunes, without the video, and I can stick it on a playlist. Thank you so much - I think that is going to work.

As a card-carrying luddite, I'd go one further and suggest using a CD, but it must be better than Youtube's variably-dreadful audio quality.

Jaded's solution has worked better than actual magic! The mozilla route crashed though.

My delight is unbounded - lovely music lifted onto MP3 and automatically dropped into I Tunes playlist like a dream. No buffering/disallowed/errorcode/loading issue/incompatible format or all the rest of it.

Better still a tape. Tape players whose buttons were electronic rather than mechanical to drive the head into the tape were the height of technological advancement.
