Photobackup on the go

I know about this but £90 and quite chunky doesn't appeal.

What I have been trying to find is a device that simply transfers data between cards, or portable hard drive, as a backup. A card reader that presents multiple drives to the host along with OTG might be a possible molish with a phone.

Anything like that exist, pre-made IRL?

Something like this RAVPower FileHub Plus. https://www.amazon.co.uk/RAVPower-Wireless-Portable-Companion-Streamer/dp/B00TI3WQJS
Or Verbatim Mediashare https://www.amazon.co.uk/Verbatim-98243-MediaShare-Wireless/dp/B00CZ0P0PS

I think they would let you plug in an SD card and a USB drive, and copy from one to the other.

Or a hard drive with SD card reader built in, eg WD My Passport Wireless Pro. It should be simpler, as all in one box, though more expensive (£150 or so).

I'd seen the RAVpower and come to the conclusion it didn't have any file manager function, but the Verbatim one says "File Manager App - Available iOS and Android mobile app" - could be the answer

ETA - RT'ing TFM, it appears it might, and it's an interesting gadget  https://www.ravpower.com/media/downloads/Advanced%20User%20Guide%20RP-WD03.pdf

Hmm.. A raspi zero and rsync may do the job, or even something arduino based.

I've bought the Ravpower thingy, and it is perfect for what I need.  Haven't played with its wifi capability yet, but storage-wise it does what it says on the tin. Reading through the reviews, one person was put off because "The app hasn't been updated since 2015". Well, the 2015 version hasn't, but the 2017 version has  ;D

I'm wondering if it can be set to backup, without using the app? ie you plug in a card, and it automatically copies everything onto the hard drive.

A Pi could work, but then you have to attach a power supply, and storage, and put it all in some sort of case. Then setup the software etc. And it would be a slow interface for any hard drives.

The Gnarbox is another option, though rather expensive and not much storage space. Probably excessive unless you want to do video editing on your phone. https://www.gnarbox.com/

Not from what I can see, no, but given that it must be running some kind of embedded linux, it may be hackable if you are that way inclined.
