Reading glasses strength.
« on: 21 February, 2018, 01:26:15 pm »
I wear contacts with powers of -0.75 and -1.25 which are fine for mid- and far- sight. I cant get multi-focal ones to work (dominant eye too dominant I'm told by those who should know).  If I wanted reading glasses correction for close work (map/Garmin reading) would a +1 pair be about right? Thinking of the Hydrotac type thing.

Why not pop into somewhere like Poundland and try different strength reading specs while wearing your contacts?

I found the works very well and once I have checked what I need I then order some safety style specs with reading panes of the correct strength while also carrying. Cheap pair of reading specs.

I'd guess about +1.5 would be about right.
I've got +2 in my bifocals, and it's a bit too much.

The need for reading correction changes quite rapidly in the early-mid fifties so getting cheap reading specs makes sense when things are fluid.

I think you need to see what works best for you in close and intermediate ranges.

For myself, I hardly ever use really close range correction.
