+1

It'll be interesting to see what a notably still day brings speed wise.

Great to read @Steves views yesterday and great to see the increase in Av. speed. To get the real big days in, Steve needs to ride faster as well as longer. Great to see this is now happening.

GO STEVE

Allez Steve

Seems I might have to pay more attention to these threads after-all.

Yes, my interest is re-awakening. I notice the average speed for yesterday's 332.8km was 28.9 kph!

He's about to pass near my home. Unfortunately I'm back at work now, so unable to try to intercept and cheer him on.  :(

Go Steve!

Indeed, I noticed Steve's last ride on Strava was longer* than Kurt's, with more climbing* and a higher average speed*!

That must be a first?

Steve's giving it large this evening. Is he nearly there yet?
Admission.  I'm actually not that fussed about cake.

No, just turning for home - again.

Being an AUK member I'm used to seeing others doing big distances on a bike. I've even been known to do them myself sometimes, so I have a vague understanding of the magnitude of what Steve is doing. But seeing the daily distances he is doing, in what still ought to be his recovery period is incredible.

Go Steve !

ps it's been a smashing day and evening to be out on the bike and I hope Steve is enjoying the ride today.

Wow.  He's still moving at 22:55.  Nearly home but in need of food and bed, I reckon.
Hope he has home help tonight.

Waiting for strava.  Should be 250m.

Here's the jaw drop- he is contemplating doing that (on AVERAGE) every day till Dec 31. I hope he does, but actually whether or not he does just knowing there is someone able to seriously contemplate doing that - let alone while recovering from broken bones - is truly inspiring.

I don't know if my stats on daily mileages are out, but I've got Steve on 26,132 miles by today, which would give him a required batting average of (75065-26132)/(365-167) = 247.1 miles per day.

I took my figures from here:-

http://ultracycling.com/sections/records/data/hamr/spreadsheet.php

According to that, Steve's total after 166 days was 25354.2. Add to that day 167's total of 256.8 gives 25611. Subtract that from his target of 75065 leaves 49454. Divide that by 198 and that gives 249.767676. Round it up to 249.8.

It is late and I may have made mistakes.

The UMCA figures are missing from 9th May (186 miles) and 16th May (201 miles) both I think when Steve did overnight 600km events.
There also is no posting on 24th May, but it's possible that the 423 miles posted for the 23rd is covered there.

It is late and I may have made mistakes.
So might the UMCA1  :-\
If you use the official results where available you get a different result.  Up to and including 31 May (day 151):
Spreadsheet: 22249.1
Official results: 22711.5

So using the official results where posted and the spreadsheet since Steve's total to date is 26073.4 leaving 247.4 runs miles per day required.
Or, projecting forward using the published schedules, the lower schedule ends up 946.6 short and the upper schedule beats Tommy by 955.6 miles.

1As well as the discrepancy noted here when I was scrutinising Miles daily results I found the spreadsheet.php often disagreed with the details.php.  Never mind eh?  The official results will settle which is correct?  No, when they were posted including Miles for the first time they disagreed with both on some days.  Corrections have been made since.

More good news.  The elapsed time yesterday was 17:12:37 which is bang in the zone for Steve's schedule in June (16-18 hours for 255 miles)

Go Steve!

That is positive but suggests that Steve should be looking at minimising any time stopped during the day i.e. eating on the bike, rather than sitting down in cafes or suchlike. Plus increasing his average speed on the road, of course.

Even with absolutely minimal effort it is possible to bimble at 4-5 mph.  Doing this for 20 minutes at mealtimes instead of stopping wins an extra 1.5 miles each time.  The key is in not stopping.  For most people, a time trial effort of ten miles doesn't catch up a touring-pace ride with a 1.5 mile head start.
