Nope.  Nearish miss.  Just avoided the Marsh Gibbon gravitational field.

Heading purposefully SSW.
Admission.  I'm actually not that fussed about cake.

I cant see him making today's bike-check, so presumably he's arranged to do it on Sunday.
(IIRC that option used to be only for Monday starters.)

Hopefully he'll have time for a sociable beer with the troops this evening!

Is the bike he's riding today the same bike he'll use after tomorrow?
Admission.  I'm actually not that fussed about cake.

The answer to that one was posted on another thread some time ago.

I have Steve's PBP bike now -.....   complicated checking it in, picking up documentation etc , Linking with support vehicle and TG himself as my start is 5.30 -- but as far as I can foresee- we have all bases covered at the moment.

Personally I was surprised when he chose the 9.00pm start , rather than the Monday morning - when he could have had 5 or 6  hours sleep in a booked hotel and would have been faster thru controls  .. which had been the plan put in place months ago.

BUT - I was told it was his choice and there was no point in discussing or debating  it -- but to me it still does not seem the right start time to maximise sleep, minimise control time etc

Go Steve!
If it ain't broke, fix it 'til it is...

would have been surprised if he went from Portsmouth, its a long old crossing compared to Dover

Thats true but you can get a decent sleep (esp with a cabin). Also the ride into Dover is much less pleasant.
And Calais is further from Paris.

All reasons that PBPers favour Portsmouth/Newhaven. Mostly.

This run along the coast is like D-day - he keeps selling us dummies, who knows which beach he'll land on!

I'm in the same exclusive 20:00 start group as Steve. I doubt I'll see much of him after they set us off.

Bumped into Steve while out for a ride near Hungerford.  Gave home the really useful advice to "KEEP GOING".  :-)
