DOH! I've got a dongle from Three, which gave me really really slow connection speeds at home, so I thought I'd be clever and update the firmware...
of course the firmware update didn't finish completely and now das beast is completely dead
Since yacf people are generally very very clever, I wonder if anyone's got any experience with such things?
