Chain ring swap
« on: 01 August, 2019, 09:37:05 am »
I have a 15 year old Trek with a 10 speed Dura Ace triple - the outer 52T chainring is worn out - the current Dura Ace stuff has different bolts and is very expensive.

Given the age of the bike and that it's a bit of a beater will a Triagra FC4600  2x 10s chainring that I happen to have work?  - the bolt diameters match and it fits the spider OK.

Thanks

Rob

as it happens I think it may well  fit and work OK in this case. But in general terms 10s big chainrings are often dished rather than flat and if the dishing is changed then you can expect problems.

A simple check is to sit the big ring (using a set of spacers if the chain peg is still fitted) on a perfectly flat surface and measure the exact height of the face that bears against the spider. For chainrings of the same size the height (dishing) ought to be identical.
