London Nocturne
« on: 20 May, 2012, 05:35:26 pm »
I see that the 2012 London Nocturne is creeping up on us.  An evening of Penny racing, folder racing and more traditional eyes out full on racing.

My sinister agents tell me that zigzag is riding in the folder race. He led the field last year until the final bend, where he was cruelly overtaken.

And I get the feeling Charlotte will be there on her Penny. I seem to recall Darkpoint was there last year inna Penny stylee too.

It's at Smithfield on 9th June. Linky

A fair few of the YACF massive went along last year. I hope to get there this year (although I'm travelling back from Scout camp that day).

We can't go this year because we're going to an outdoor Shakespeare gig at Tolethorpe Hall - Mrs JT has a new picnic basket and everything.

Tim - you missed out the added entertainment of laughing at all the fakengers, and Rapha-men*.

*I wear Rapha myself but I'm not one of them.

yes Tim, i'll be there, on the same folding bike, wearing same race face. the competition is very strong, including KeithH who won this race three times before. i had a go on his race-spec sponsored bike (tern verge - only one in uk) and there is quite a difference to what i'm riding. nevermind, i'll push as fast as i can!

big thanks to all who is coming and supporting - weather forecast looks good!

Yay! If you fancy boosting your chances a bit, I could always bring Chutney (Dahon Speed Pro TT)....;) Keith's a monster though. Jealous of the guy who's got a Verge X30H (there are two Tern riders)..

I'm way too knackered to make it.  I've just had a bath which was drier than last night's ride ;D

just back from the event - great fun, and the crowd was amazing! i set off first and was leading for two laps until the dutch guy blitzed me (and everyone else). finished at the back of the first group, i reckon 7th or 8th. was pleased to meet and speak to StuAff, darkpoint and Ray Kelly.
i'd have liked to watch the elite riders racing, but decided to go home and get some sleep before "the ditchling devil" audax tomorrow.

I was most impressed with your lead in the 1st two laps. Going like the proverbial train.

Yup, once again a most impressive turn of speed from Rimas. And certainly no shame coming behind That Guy....the commentator mentioned 'ringers'. Well, he is Jeroen Janssen- Dutch rider from Team Raleigh. And he was on a prototype Dahon 30th anniversary model....When he went, no-one could keep up, and I know how fast Rimas, Keith Henderson and Richard Bailey are first hand!

Some good photos there Charlotte.

Disappointed that the results are not up yet.  (I want to find out how near the back of the field I was..)

Some good photos there Charlotte.

Indeed. The one with what looks like all the entrants spanning Grand Avenue is particularly impressive.

And another thing....
Mr. Summerfield and Graham Mc Pherson aka Suggs. Have they ever been seen together?
Or is it just the hat?

Re-awakening last year's thread:

So, who is going?

Who is racing? Zig-zag we know. Any Penny racers from Ealing?

It's this Saturday, Smithfield.

I would love to go but am flying out on my holibobs that evening.

Good luck to all involved and have a great night those that go to soak up the atmosphere.

The Awesome Kat Jungnickel* is, I think, the only woman racing a penny this year.

* Her actual full name.  Not many people know this, but many suspect.
