Title: Petworth 2019 End of Summer Time 50, 100 and 200k Rides
Post by: AJB on 01 August, 2019, 05:09:29 pm
Just an early update on my October 27th 2019 rides out of Petworth.

The Petworth End of Summer Time 200
07:30 GMT from Petworth Pound Street Carpark
    https://www.audax.uk/event-details?eventId=7216 (https://www.audax.uk/event-details?eventId=7216)

Unlike this years Petworth Start of Summer Time 200 this is NOT a BRM registered event.

The Petworth End of Summer Time 100
08:00 GMT from Petworth Pound Street Carpark
    https://www.audax.uk/event-details?eventId=7217 (https://www.audax.uk/event-details?eventId=7217)

This is a revised version of the ride with a shorter Stage 1 that avoids the A29, but does take in Bedham Hill. Stage 3 avoids the long section of A283
at the start and no more climbing of Henley Hill to the INFO. However, the stage is slightly longer to ensure you get full value.

The Petworth End of Summer Time 50
09:30 GMT from Hampers Green Community Centre
   https://www.audax.uk/event-details?eventId=7218 (https://www.audax.uk/event-details?eventId=7218)

This is expected to the the last running of this event owing to low take up. At least I have a lot of spare cards!

Entry form and details of the above rides can be found on the Audax UK Calendar pages by following the links

All include in the price Coffee/Tea plus Bickies at the start, one or more feeds when visiting the Hampers Green Community Centre and at the finish.

No Entries on the line for the 100 or 200.

All rides will be validated at the end of the ride.

West Sussex. On the junction of the A272, the A283 and the A285. A nice part of the world.

I'm sure it's very lovey.

It would be even lovelier if you could tow it a hundred miles or so towards the Midlands. West Mids preferably. Worcestershire would be ideal, thanks...  ;D

yes they're a bit like that in Petworth  :)

Fair play to Anton for putting these rides on  not many 200k rides in this area now. Lots near Worcester though if you count Blacksheep's

I’ve managed to do a route check of the revised Pet EoST 100 last week

Amended RouteSheet and GPS tracks, based on this ride, have been uploaded to the AUK Entry Site.

I’ll be doing the final route check closer to the ride date.

Regards

Entries to the 200 are coming along nicely, but the uptake for the 100 is very low compared to previous years.

Would riders prefer me to reinstate Henley Hill back into the route?  :)

I'm seeing the same for the MSH events

Hopefully I’ll make the MSH this year, but will be a full value rider. 😃

I'll be asking those riders who have already entered the 200 directly, but if anyone is thinking of entering the 200, and comes from Brighton Sussex, would they be willing of giving another 200 rider a lift to the start of the ride?

Entries to the 200 coming in quicker than expected and may consider closing sooner than planned.

Still plenty of spaces on 100 and 50 rides

I was very interested in the 200 but can't see how I could practically be at the start point from south London. Did consider riding down the night before and wild sleeping but the weather can't be relied on. Good luck with the riders.

I will need to close the entries to the Petworth EoST 100 and 200 on Sunday October 20th instead of the planned Wednesday October 23rd. Earlier if they fill.

Unlike previous years I cannot be flexible with this date and allow later entries

I’m thinking about coming out of retirement for this one  :o

I’d only be up for the 100k at this stage but it’s not too far from home. Don’t think it looks like it can be the easiest one to start back with but hopefully I will be able to make it 😊😊🙏🏻🙏🏻

Hope you can make it. An alternative if not sure about the 100 would be the Pet EoST 50.

However, compared to previous years the removal of Henley Hill and Bexley Hill this year's Pet EoST 100 is easier.

Entries for the Pet EoST 100 and 200 close after this weekend

I can definitely ride 60-70 miles, it’s just that since I gave birth I haven’t really cycled up many hills 😱😱🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ so that will be the struggle! I’ll enter now though I think, been thinking about it for a couple of days so just going to get it done.

Just a reminder that after this weekend entries to the 100 and 200 will close.

The 200 may close earlier since down to my last few blank brevet cards.

Plenty of cards still for the 100

Entries have now closed for the 100 and 200, but will consider On the line entries for the 50 if notified before of intent by Friday October 25th.

Emails have been sent to all riders on the 50, 100 and 200 containing amended Welcome Letters, Routesheets, and GPS Tracks. I have also updated the AUK Entry pages with this latest data.

If the Petworth carpark on entering appears to be full, there is an overflow at the back.

Also remember to get your free ticket from the carpark machine on arrival.

Since this is the largest group of 100 & 200 riders to have ever entered any of my events there may be a staggered start to prevent congestion on Petworth's narrow High Street and the A283.

Finally, since I need to get to the hall quickly to get set up before the 100s make their initial visit, I will not be hanging around at the start. If you will be late please advise me directly.

Excellent ride! a familiar area for me but some unusual lanes on the 200 I've not ridden before. Thanks Anton for levelling off Duncton Hill on the last leg I was expecting it to be 60m higher! I will probably need a stair lift on Harting soon!

Excellent food at the HQ which hit the spot!

Thanks Anton Shirley El S Mad Jack Lurcio and Phixie

I can only agree with Martin about today's ride.

It would have been an excellent route, but someone put a big climb at 160k/100 miles. Anton is no longer on my Christmas card list!

Thanks to Anton, Richard, Chris, Andy and Dave. Honourable mention to Shirley for the hot food and delicious, homemade cakes

First one in a very long time for me!! Only did the 100k but all those hills more than made up for it 😊

Great day for riding, good route, brilliant food at the controls, the home made cakes were amazing.

Thanks so much Anton and all the helpers for a great day out, ages since I had el Supremo’s catering and Richard’s stamping!!

Will hopefully be back for the 200 version in March 😊😊 I intend that ride to be the start of my post baby comeback for me.

I can only echo all the thanks and praise expressed above.
I also had a good ride, and it was nice to see lots of other riders around, after all the Helpers Rides I have been doing recently.
A good introduction to post-summertime 200km riding, fairly easy to get ahead of the time limits - until I reached Harting in the gloom, and the undulations of the last 11 miles or so.
Even so I was back faster than I expected,  :) though I was the penultimate finisher.

yes; looked at the route couldn't work out quite which climbs it did up the S Downs but we only had one MF on the 200, Harting (and then it was the easiest of the 3 that go up there from the North). The last climb up to Duncton was very shallow by comparison and made better by not being able to see it in the dark!

Sorry about Harting Hill and then long drag from Chichester to eventually get over Duncton Hill. I'm thinking of changing the order of the rides two loops, but need to sort out some details first.

If I managed to get these hills out of the way earlier will I be back on your Christmas card list?

All,

Just to say many thanks for all the emails I've received thanking me and my teams for laying on a successful set of rides.

My wife is very happy with the praise for her homemade cakes.

For those who entered one of these rides (including DNS and DNF) you should have received an email from me with some stats and the following thanks

My Thanks to:

Dave ‘El Supremo’ Hudson for providing Tea and Coffee both at the start and in the Hampers Green Community Centre.

Chris Tracey / Andy Seviour for manning the Shoreham Control on the 200 and then joining the rest of the team to help in the hall.

Richard Phipps for route checking the 100 before the event and card stamping at the hall, plus final validations.

My wife Shirley for all the catering and hard work both before and after the event, plus in the hall kitchen on the day.

Anton
