Thinking of the other Helen, I'd say read the label obsessionally for any product originating outside GB and check it's more than 50% sugar/carbohydrate/Kohlhydrat...

I have now located 'sweetened condensed milk' in the local supermarket but the cans have ring pulls so I am not sure how well they will stand up to boiling.

I am back in the UK on Sunday for a week so will buy some British stuff then.
