While riding home from Mordor Central on Saturday evening, I noticed a proliferation of fireworks from local back gardens, none of which were any louder than a gentle wooshing noise.

I didn't notice any bangs last night.

I generally don't mind the pyrotechnics, but there is no need to set them off well into the early hours (e.g. 02:00), or at 07:00 as was the case last Monday or Tuesday.

Paypal pre-approved merchants - ffs NO!

I use paypal where possible precisely because I don't trust joe random merchant. I don't trust them to keep card details secure because they are a <stuff> merchant first and payment systems are a tool they use and may or may not maintain correctly. If I don't trust them to secure their systems to keep my card details safe I see no reason to trust them to secure their systems from fraudulent use.
Paypal is a payment system, keeping my payment details working and secure is their number one priority. Paypal allowing a merchant to be pre approved drives a fucking bus through the idea that all transactions must be manually approved. Paypal allowing merchant to demand that I accept that they become pre-approve in order to process today's order IS NOT FUCKING HELPFUL.

The answer, although somewhat tedious, is to go online on your account after the transaction is complete and remove the pre-auth. Always a good idea to have a shufti at your Paypal account from time to time, anyhow.

I used to believe that the U.K. was an improving meritocracy, with problems in certain areas, but on the whole, offering opportunity to improve your lot in life. Perhaps a little naive but I think not entirely so. Now however, the pendulum has swung so far back in favour of the privileged, that there really is no hope unless your parents can afford to send you to the right schools.
It’s reached such a level, that politicians don’t even need to try and pretend to be intelligent, let alone seem to have integrity. All that matters is who you were at school with, or who,you can pay off, so that you can get the endorsement of the right people and the great British public will vote you in.
I really do wonder why I bother some days.

As you may have guessed from other posts I have made, I am not one for Christmas. So, CBH and I had planned to go out to Buxton to do a bit of walking. However, for the first time in 11 years since we got it, my car refused to start meaning we had to stay local and only managed an hour before getting bored and returning home.

When we got home guess what....the car started first time.

I have been with One Call car insurance for many many years. I have just sold the car they insured and have been charged £123 to cancel the policy!

And no, I did not want insure the new car with them as their quote was nearly £200 more than the one I picked and the cover was worse.

I hate being ripped off!

Fucking stupid government! (No, this shouldn't be in POBI).

I just tried several times to log on to check my pension entitlement. For security purposes, the form required my passport details, including the expiry date in the format 31 MAR 2026 (clearly explained that this was the required format). After several unsuccessful attempts to log in, in desperation I tried the format 31 03 2026.

It worked.
