Waitrose sells Montezuma
« on: 19 January, 2013, 06:12:53 pm »
I was idling along the confectionary aisle in Waitrose not half an hour ago, on the hunt for a large bar of Fruit & Nut for Mrs. Wow, when I happened upon a selection of chocolate from Montezuma. Naturally, I bought a couple of bars, one of which has already been snaffled by the assorted gannets that inhabit Chateau Wow.

I've never noticed it there before. Is this new?

They've sold it for at 2 or 3 years. IIRC, it came in at the time they stopped selling Valrhona.
Most other supermarkets seem to think that Green & Black is good enough.

Tesco has stopped selling Green & Black. Well, my local Tesco Metro has anyway. I've never been in a Waitrose in my life, but I am partial to Montezuma's Revenge truffles.

Pretty sure I've seen Green & Blacks in Tesco, even the nearest Metro...

Try their Finest 72% Peruvian, very nice indeed. Even their non-Finest varieties are interesting.

Montezuma's say they won't supply the big supermarkets, as part of their "trading fairly" policy.

The Montezuma's dark chocolate with chilli is rather nice.

Yep, even the "Little Waitrose" has had Montezuma's for at least two years. In fact I'm not convinced Sainsbury's don't have it. Tesco's own brand dark choc is also good, as mentioned.

Well yeah.  :D Also, there weren't any in Scotland until a little while ago, and I'd have to go past umpteen other supermarkets to get to the ones we do have now.

What's available is here

LiDL, OTOH, is working-class-hero-compatible and does a decent line in proper high-octane* chocolate.

* Possibly not the correct technical term.

There were other varieties as well. The two bars I bought are not listed there.
