Android apps for organization / to do lists?
« on: 09 February, 2018, 08:36:23 am »
So paper lists are great. Outlook on computer OK. However I never have them with me. My phone is with me, what should I use on it?

Background time. I'm disorganised. Well not true but I forget things. Still not true, I deliberately forget things I don't want to do. However a list that I can tick off kind of works for me to prevent my worst tendencies. So what's good? What's free? And what's going to turn me into a successfully organised professional? The last one is beyond an app (at least a free one  ;) ).

Google Keep. Syncs between a mobile app and website - http://keep.google.com.

You can have several tickable lists as well as general notes. You can categorise them with tags as well. Any of these can be shared between different people if you so desire.

Mrs Telstarbox and I use it for a shared shopping list - either of us can add items on the list / tick the items off when we buy them.

Joplin, synchronises through  OneDrive available for Android and iThing, also Linux, Windows and Mac

http://joplin.cozic.net/   Allows simple formatting via Markdown.

Created as a replacement for Evernote and allows importing Evernote files.

Edit: Opensource and free

I'd agree that Keep is a good start. Try that and see if you need anything more complex. It does both ordinary notes and to-do lists, so you can jot anything down. Not so many features that it gets confusing (like OneNote, for example - I'm sure it's very good, but I don't have the time to invest to work it out, and I've worked out more software packages than I've had hot dinners).

Evernote for me. Free (although I have the paid version), works on android phone, Windows, iPlop, linux. Never had an issue. I find it simpler than OneNote.

I have used Trello.  I find Google calendar easier personally.

Ditto - using the paid for version that gives offline access - on Win PC, and Android with 1 phone, 2 tablets - totally seamless linking across all devices in real-time.  Clipping websites and storing pix etc useful

Simple logical and not intrusive with carp that you don't want, like OneNote

I use that too but only for shared notes and storing ideas.

Keep is a useful, minor Google product.  They have previous for discontinuing such things with short notice.  Remember Google Reader.

True, although since the Alphabet/Google split they seem to be focusing on a smaller collection of integrated services so fingers crossed...

I'm using Todoist for lists of things I need to do.

The free version synchronises seamlessly between my phone and desktop/browser. I can organise by project and assign completion dates to items.

For short notes, Keep is fantastic, seamless synch, simple.

I like Keep, particularly the location reminder

Or the much-mourned Google Wave.
That had huge potential for collaborative development and writing.

A lot of people were very surprised when it was retired. Some of the functionality made its way into google docs, but not all.
