Four Old Buggers in Germany
« on: 23 April, 2018, 11:50:18 am »
Jan and I, along with our friends Jeff & Annie, are doing a sort-of repeat of the tour we did with AH & James about 8 years ago, with variations.

On Friday next week we are putting our bikes on Eurostar to Brussels where we stay for one night. Then we take a train to Luxembourg and stay there for a night, then we cycle to Trier and stay in pretty much the same towns & villages that we did in the previous tour, along the bonnie, bonnie banks of the Mösel. After Koblenz we go up the Rhein to look at the Lorelei and then catch a train to Belgium, spending a bit of time in Leuven and Ghent before Eurostarring it back to London again. Home on Sunday 13th.

Bugger! I have just learned that Saturday is Karl Marx's 200th birthday. He was born in Trier. We will be there on Sunday, so will miss it by a day.

Bugger! I have just learned that Saturday is Karl Marx's 200th birthday.

Fairly sure he's dead (but I may be getting him mixed up with Groucho)
Some people say I'm self-obsessed but that's enough about them.

There’s a couple of blog posts here, Bob.

There are supposed to be some photographs in there but I have found that getting them to appear is a challenge too far for my pore brane.

If you get fed up with that Rhennish & Moselle piddle see if you can find a Fleiner Felsengarten Trollinger.

Two very tough days due to heat. Did over 40 miles yesterday. Today we bailed at 21 and for £3.80 each we saved ourselves over 30 miles. In Cochem now and full of Schnizel and red wine.

As long as the gentlemen aren't...

Our local FFCT tendril organised a Strasbourg-Lorelei a couple of years ago.  Wouldn't have minded doing it, but gents weren't invited other than as stokers or van-drivers.
