Shimano chain joining pins
« on: 20 August, 2018, 01:03:18 pm »
While doing some tidying up, I found a little bag containing a couple of Shimano chain joining pins. Well, that explains why I couldn't find them last time I replaced my chain...

I'm almost certain they're for 11-speed but how can I be sure? (presumably by measuring them, so the question is what should the measurement be for 11-speed?)

Or should I just chuck them and use quick links?

They’re grooved and shaped for easy differentiation by appearance, like this.

I’d use them since I have them, although I prefer quick links.

Brilliant, thanks!

I did look on Wiggle and saw that the 11-speed links look quite different to the rest, with a more pointy end, but I didn't know the others had ways of identifying them - useful to know.

Like you, I think I will use them since I have them - I shall put them somewhere safe, so I can't find them when I next need them...

A summer holiday washbag is a safe spot for small items. Mine kept my spare car key utterly safe from last August until a week ago.
