I've got a meeting in London on Wednesday evening, so I'll not be out this week. I note that the forward planned venue is near Maldon, so that fits in well.

Great, if you're not coming then I can make an appearance.

Oh good, you can scowl at me for my 32 weeks gag  ;D  I could always buy you a glass of Merlot by way of reparations - I think there's a precedent

As long as it doesn't involve a beer shower first, I'm in.

I see in the forward planning that we’re off to The Cats this week (OD’s favorite subject).  Do we have a route as I’d like to join at Spa Road if work permits.

I think going to the gym might be a good idea this evening. The forecast says it’ll be -1 at 1900 hours and the prospect of ice frightens me.

With the prospect of day time rain and freezing temperatures before even setting off I think it will be an evening of planning for rides later in the year than actually riding  :-\

Captain Sensible here had the M Winters on last week...unnecessarily, as we only came across one sparkly patch of frost on the road on the way home. Choose a pub on a gritted route? ECE planners know those roads well.

I'll be absent tonight btw, have a good ride/pub, wherever you all go

So an Eastern venue and no Psyclist  :demon: and the weather looks like it will sod it up.

With the exception of the actual road to the Cats (Blue Mill Rd) , the route is gritted from Hatfield Peverel to Danbury along Crouchman's Farm Road and Hoe Mill Road.  The only bit that isn't shown as gritted (but was fine last time when we had the frozen bottles/beards) was The Causeway.  The Eastbound side of the A12 cycleway is closer to the A12 so gets grit off that.

Last time my route was Woodhill, Herbage Park, Cats then back through HP and Boreham. I didn't have spiked tyres then, it was -4 Deg C.

Gritted routes are fine but the grit only works properly if it has been driven over

http://www.essexhighways.org/Roads-and-Pavements/winter-travel/salting-routes.aspx

I've not made a decision about tonight yet, I was considering putting the spikes on the CdF as I need to check the sealant in the tyres anyway.

Fish n chips at the Wetherspoons in Witham is becoming more appealing especially as I don't have a beard to freeze befoe my skins does.
It was flippin cold at 6am and I'm already thinking of ignoring AndyC3's squeals about Rule 5 and taking the train ALL the way home.

So it doesn't sound like much of a turn out tonight for The Cats

Up For It:
Ted
Grey Sheep

Tentatives:
Huggy?
OD?
Jibers?
JEM ?
Andy?
Oacky?

Would a change of venue help? I still haven't got round to changing tyres but on the plus side, sunny, no rain so might just be cold tonight  ???

I'm tentatively up for it.  Don't mind the venue.

I recall a very icy trip to the cats two years back.  I didn't get out in time to join the peloton, and had to cut some of the (OD?)  planned route short because the lanes were just too slippy.  I seem to remember learning, when I got to the pub, that the rest of the group had missed out that loop too.

I think you tried to wriggle out in 2016, too.  Peer pressure eventually got to you:-

Oh go on then.  If I die I shall hold you all responsible!!!

Happy with a change of venue if it remains in the glorious East.

Cats is pretty central - it's about 20 miles home for me.

I recall OD's spaghetti route to the Cats.  He sat in the pub and watched Doggers slog round it in minus something.

Did anyone do The Compasses on the Knights ride, was it any good? (just thinking of a more Ted friendly location we haven't been to for a while that's well served with gritted roads)
