Schnibble = Swiss, according to my Swiss chum Theo.

6 from Legs' questions could be "I'm Going To Bring A Watermelon To My Girl Tonight". I have a version by the Bonzos but it was apparently first recorded by Jones And Hare in 1924.  Bit obvious though.

I'll play through my HMHB collection this afternoon. Most of those words should be in there somewhere.

Both excellent answers, and neither were what I was thinking of!

Your hat strategically dipped below one eye
Your scarf it was apricot
You had one eye on the mirror
As you watched yourself gavotte

I can just picture C Simon stalking round the room, muttering, "Apricot, apricot..... what the hell rhymes with apricot?!"  It's a bit of a struggle, isn't it?

I prefer "Gavotte Do You Gwant To Make Those Eyes At Me For" - Emile Ford and The Checkmates

Probably easier than "your scarf was orange" though.

OK, then it's Legs 2 and Mr Larrington 2. One to go.

bump

Okay, here's another one to get your teeth into.

In what popular songs do the following (unusual) words crop up?  Song title and artist please.

1) gavotte - You're So Vain - Carly Simon - Eccentrica G.
2) pastries
3) encumber - He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother - The Hollies - soaplady
4) Indonese (sic)
5) metaphorically
6) watermelon - Watermelon Man - Mongo Santamaria - Jacob W (honourable mention for Mr L)
7) DDT - Big Yellow Taxi - Joni Mitchell - PeteB99
8 ) pseudonym - Babooshka - Kate Bush - Clare
9) happenstance
10) nonchalant - When You Walk In The Room - Jackie DeShannon or The Searchers - Peter

Answers other than the ones I've got in mind may be acceptable (I was thinking Old Dogs, Children and Watermelon Wine, or All Around the World or the Myth of Fingerprints for "watermelon")

Indonese - State of Independence, Jon & Vangelis (81) / Donna Summer (82)
I'd offer you some moral support - but I have questionable morals.

Yes and yes.  Well, not Yes, actually, but Jon & Vangelis.  Donna Summer's version is, IMO, one of the great crimes against music...
