Best place to buy fixie chainsets?
« on: 18 June, 2008, 10:08:57 am »
The Peli-Woolly fixie family is in need of a new chainset. Where's the cheapest place to purchase the aforementioned?

Much obliged.  :-*

Fixed Gear and Singlespeed Cranks and Cranksets for Bicycles from Harris Cyclery

I wouldn't mind the Bulletproof (scroll down a bit) ones as the are cheap, it is just getting over the $100 minimum for shipping to the UK and the added custom "tax" bit.

Post on the 'Wanted' board and someone who's recently upgraded may have a spare they'll give you  :)
(this is not me, but it may be in a few months' time. Oh, wait, I have got one but it's a vintage cottered set...)

May I refer the house to another thread about chain tension.

"Cheap" chainsets, and rings in particular, are often less than round.

Use cheaper cranks by all means, but I would always go for good (e.g record or Dura Ace) rings for a fixed wheel.

Hubjub--Fixed gear in the UK

The Sugino XD is pretty good.  1/8" rings in 110BCD are tricky to find, but I got some from Warhawk Industries in the US for about six quid each.

Thank you again Adrian, I had 103 miles of fun with them this past Saturday. And I can feel that 170mm is just what I needed for when fixed.
