Hospital appointment again?
I don't think so, the H is outside the privacy area of the tracker so it's clear when he stops there.  Possible he went home for 2nd breakfast or a technical?

Could be Tracker problem? My screen now shows that he's done 85 miles but has erratic times in the listing below the map. It also thinks it's 1.20pm (GMT), which appears to be a couple of hours ahead of Cheshire!

I'd agree the tracker info looks a bit wonky. On Ivan's Hackney page he stuck for ages just outside MK, having allegedly started his ride at Newton Blossomville. Then there was a big jump over to Saffron Walden, where he's been for a while. The "last track point" reads 0h00m ago and does after each refresh.

His home page links to Strava and 205 miles. Perhaps tracker will work better tomorrow ...

Decent, but sadly, not what he needs.

I suspect that Steve is currently tweaking and experimenting before his second attempt, rather than blasting himself into oblivion to try to salvage his first.

Which is the most sensible thing to do.

It certainly makes sense.

Does it?

It seems to me that these distances are too far for 'training' and too short for the record attempt. I am struggling to see what Steve and team doing at the moment.

I agree, Jo. The strategy is far from obvious just now. It's not like Steve's just going through the motions - it's too far daily for that - but it's not far enough to make any impact on the mileage deficit. I would have thought that if rehabilitation and training for a restart were the aim, then shorter, harder efforts would have been in order, combined with a goodly amount of rest. So, what's occurring??

I hope that Steve is doing lots of miles to scout out some faster roads to use for the re-start.  I believe he could get the record, as long as he treats it like a One Year Time Trial rather than a One Year Audax, and gets off the country lanes and onto some of the quieter main roads.

Ditto.

The only useful outcome would seem to be banking a respectable age-group record figure on Dec 31st(even though it will be well short of Godwin's).

(At his current rate, it will be VERY respectable indeed! )

I'm wondering if he's re-acclimatising to the larger mileages in order to begin ramping the miles up to his summer schedule ready for the start of a new attempt - if he's starting afresh in the middle of summer, he'll need to be racking up the big mileages from day 1 of the new attempt, knowing that he'll have to curtail the mileage as the winter draws in.
You are in a maze of twisty flat droves, all alike.

Speculation: But maybe this is a once in a lifetime year of cycling.  And the record is incidental to a personal best.

I think Steve knows what he's doing.

no doubt, but there has been some odd rides,

the 300km the day before the accident was 300km into the wind that started at 6am and didn't finish until 2am,

there needs to be more on the fly route changes, flatter routes like the 400km he did on 8/6/15

like the 400km the day after a 600km Audax

also, a restart now last another year, is there finance in place to extend this another 6 months?

and also it seems likely that it won't be Tommy's record he's going to have to beat, it will be Kurts,

There's no doubt that throughout May and June, Steve has been riding distances that almost no-one else could manage day after day. For that he deserves (and gets) our admiration even before considering his ankle injury. But the 400km on the 2nd and 8th of June were, unfortunately, exceptions rather than routine. To beat Tommy's record, which he has publicly declared he wishes to do, he needs to be doing those 400s ~every day~ for the rest of the year. For every day he does a 300km, he needs to turn one of those other 400s into a 500. This is an extremely tall order. If he were to manage it, that would be a cycling story to end all cycling stories, but can't see it happening in 2015.

I think it's clear that the day before the collision, he hacked into a fairly stiff headwind in order to get the best out of a very strong wind predicted for the next day which was to carry him all the way to Lowestoft.

As regards the targets, there isn't actually a UMCA record, so Steve will set one on 31 December whatever, even if he is below Tommy's distance.  In addition, it has been mentioned on here that UMCA don't have overall records, but age-related.  Steve's record will not be beaten by Kurt, even if he rides further.  Steve will be battling against his own record, although, to those less bothered by the nitty-gritty, Kurt's distance will be 'The Record'.

Of course, none of these are being done under Guinness rules, so none of them will appear in the Book of Records most people think of and refer to.

Observation:

Steve may also have an eye on the 100,000 mile record. Miles he does today may help him take that.
