Cleaning mosaic floor tiles

Hi

We have a mosaic floor in our hall and front garden path - Victorian I think - looks like might have been done with leftover tiles from nearby Battersea Arts Centre.  Anyway, it needs a good clean - especially round the edges. We had a company give us a quote a couple or three years ago but didn't pursue - think it was about £1500 or something ridiculous - can't be more than about 10-12m2. But it really does deserve sorting out.  Does anyone have any suggestion for a suitable cleaning agent (and sealant or something for when its done)?  This is a century or more of ingrained dirt so it is going to need something pretty powerful - was thinking some sort of acid, but obviously don't want to damage the tiles. Grateful for any suggestions.

Thanks

Mark
