OOI, if you mainly ride a road bike, do you wear the same road kit when riding your MTB? For some reason I tend to wear the same road kit on the MTB, but stick on a pair of baggy shorts over my lycra shorts. Not really sure why, though I do use the extra pockets... :)

Yeah, I use the same[1] kit. I've got some baggy MTB shorts that I use around town, but they don't fit well and are a bit too restrictive for longer rides. If it's going to be more technical than a towpath, I might make specific choices of footwear and leg-covering with a view to avoiding stubbed toes, nettle stings and the like.
[1] I do tend to wear the less recumbent-friendly jerseys.

I have cycling clothes to wear on the bike rather than MTB and road outfits. Tends to be Lycra because I find baggies snag on the bike. In fact I’ll oftenget changed and not decide what bike to take until I get out to the shed

I find I have a certain amount of cross-over too: MTB rides tend to be long enough to warrant padded lycra and chamois cream, so that's usually the good old 3/4s. Water resistant shorts over the top to try and stave off soggy bottom and holes in lycra/skin due to brambles or sudden unplanned stops. Can get a bit hot sometimes, but I found I was still taking this approach, even in the heat of the summer we've just had.
I'll sometimes wear a road top, but have learned that the braces I would usually wear on a road ride [DIY bib shorts] don't play well with a backpack. Long sleeve MTB tops are often pressed into service on commutes, tours and day rides on the road, and my shoes (Merrell style walking shoes) tend get used across contexts too.
It's probably the waterproof jacket where the main difference occurs: I'm less likely to go for high vis or expensive technical fabric when on the mountain bike. Packing down to a small size is also much more critical when everything needs to fit in the backpack.

The only cross over is the lycra shorts but I wear baggies over the top. Although in summer the lycra shorts will have open weave panels for ventilation. The shorts aren't ridiculously baggy but are made of material that can fend off brambles etc. Most of the time I wear long sleeve loose jerseys or short sleeve. Long sleeve gives a bit more sun protection if required and branches etc.
I wear flat shoes on the MTB, SPDs on the roady. Different gloves too. Even different helmet. :)

I tend not to wear my 'bests' on the MTB because I don't want them snagged on branches/brambles.
