Title: New LEL website
Post by: alwyn on 02 August, 2019, 06:43:55 pm
We've published our 2021 website. You can find it at http://lel2021.com (http://lel2021.com). There you'll find news about the early entry ballot that takes place at the end of the month. You can also register your interest if you'd like to be part of the volunteer team in 2021.

Over the new year or two we'll add the official route, rider and volunteer areas, plus rider tracking for the event itself.

Just had a look at this and it's wonderful.
The graphics and language are so clear: it's an example for many other websites to aspire to.
It's going to be a great event (can't wait!) to watch you all struggle through Barnard Castle control

An excellent web site.

Good use of apostrophes too!  ;D

It is indeed a thing of beauty and a joy forever. I particularly like the fact that volunteers' accommodation "might be in a shared room". I have definite memories of deciding that in 2021 I'd ride the bloody thing because that way I'd get more sleep than volunteering. But I'm volunteering again ..........

Did it cost a quarter of a million?*

*sorry, couldn't resist...

I'm sure you're not the only who wondered about making that joke  :(

The total cost for the event will be £25,000, give or take a couple of grand. We're about a third of the way into the build and the only unforeseen cost so far is likely to be some development to allow us better manipulation of data.

It's almost like you're in control and you know what you're doing...

To be fair, we know what we're doing because we're essentially building the same website for the third time. We made some stinking errors in 2013 and 2017 and I've already repeated one of those errors for the third time.

So, I get the joke, and it's a good (but cruel) joke, but I do want to make it clear that AUK have an altogether more difficult job on their hands and that they have my full support in getting it done.

Great website with loverly video on it

The message in the trailer kind of puts me off doing the event "it's so tough..It's a challenge".  I was hoping it might be a bit of a lark.

I appreciate that the AUK website is a more complex job - I spent twenty years managing/building transactional web sites just like that. However my joke is definitely warranted; in fact it's not half as cruel as it should be IMO.

But I do not want to derail the thread. The LEL site is very good indeed.
