Most famous pop anagram I can think of is

Mr Mojo Risin' = Jim Morrison

Though I have Imogen Heap as a friend on mySpace, so I know of iMegaphone.

Either of those?

"Axl Rose" is an anagram. And possibly the stupidest pseudonym ever.

I don't think that's the answer. Just commenting.

I have a feeling the answer is going to be something like "Broken English" (as in the Marianne Faithfull song) but I don't think it is that. Is there a song/group called "Mixed Words" or "Jumbled Letters" or something like that?

Talking Heads?

Eno did a song that was an anagram of Talking Heads, but I can't remember what it was (nor am I clever enough to work it out from scratch)

His real name is William Rose. "Axl Rose" is an anagram of "oral sex".

Not the explanation given on Wikipedia (Axl being the name of a former band, apparently), but he's enough of a prat that I'm more likely to believe your version.

The Doors - LA Woman or Jim Morrison (Mr Mojo Risin)

[Mr Mojo Risin is an anagram of Jim Morrison and is part of the lyric for LA Woman by The Doors]

I don't know for sure the reason he chose the name Axl Rose, but I'm pretty certain the fortuitous anagram wouldn't have passed him by.
