Garmin Etrex Vista HC not showing elevation graph

My etrex does display current elevation. max elevation, rate of ascent/descent and I can even get it to display a pressure graph, but when I look at the elevation graph no plot is displayed on it. I've tried changing the scale and everything.

Is this a fault with the unit or user error?

Very much user error!
In future, try turning the 'Track Log' feature 'On'
