Had to share this. Comes from a friend of a colleague, but I have no interest other than that it made me smile when I saw it.
We get a lot of "safety" products on here that are based on dubious thinking. This crowd-funding project for gloves (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/711642209/glove-for-happier-safer-cycling) looks great though.
For the record, and in case the link gets taken down in due course, it's a pair of gloves that, when you wave your thanks to a driver, shows a smiley on the palm as well :)

Hmmm. What’s the emoticon for ‘you drive like an idiot”?
-
That's not what it's for. You're free to design an alternative :)
-
The intended gesture can be achieved without the financial outlay. ::-)

I think if they'd designed an attachment that if someone gets too close, it automatically flicks them the bird - that would have sold more.
-
I don't think these would have helped me yesterday.
-
Needs a very quick, responsive switch to invert the mouth to swap a smile to a scowl...
-
It's a defusion tactic. I think they're nice. And there's a lot to be said for being nice.
-
I don't think it's going to do anything much for safety (other than by being a glove with a decent amount of reflective on it to make indications visible at night), but it might make someone smile, and that's a good enough reason for them to exist.
-
Motorist may be driving too quickly in the opposite direction to notice what it actually is.
Does the smiley come on differing styles of gloves? Seems to me that one is being made
to expect conflict on all rides if the gloves are worn. ::-)
-
I think the "educe aggression & conflict on our roads" is a distraction. It's just a glove with a smiley face, as popularised by Forrest Gump, acid house, and other smiley things, which might help "making journeys more enjoyable for everyone" if they like smiley faces. For those who don't, it won't. It's like having a miniature Christmas tree on your bike, except not so seasonal.
Biggest question is whether it's decent as a glove.

Biggest question is whether it's decent as a glove.
Which for £30, it needs to be.
(FWIW, and from what I've seen on their pages, IMO it looks it)

I came across this the other week and signed up just because I liked their video so much that it's worth a £30 punt. Hand gestures by cyclists are easy misinterpreted, so worth a try at being positive for drivers who notice and no worse for the 'don't see' brigade.

Announced today that it's funded with 741 backers
