  • Yet Another Random Tandem Ride: 19 October, 2008

Author Topic: Yet Another Random Tandem (and Triplet and Solo) Ride - Sun 19th Oct  (Read 20842 times)

Edit: Sunday 19th October from Long Buckby - 10:15 for a 10:30 start.

It's been a while since there was a forum Random Tandem Ride (I organised one in September or October last year, and I'm not sure if there has been another one since). Mrs Chris and I got talking about it whilst out on a family Triplet + 2 solo ride today, and thought that if no one else wants to organise one then perhaps I should volunteer again.

The 50+ miles planned for last years ride was a bit ambitious as there were lots of teams riding together for the first time and the ride got shortened to just undr 40 niles to accomadate elevensies, lunch and many other unscheduled stops (including a visit by the fairy and Mrs Chris getting lost when only about 10 miles from home). I thought that 40 miles or so around the south of Northamptonshire would be a bit flatter than heading north as we did last year.

Is anyone interested in this? If so please vote for a date (I'm busy until October with Audaxes, London Freewheel, cheering mates on at Triathlons Etc, but the dates that I'm free are in the poll.

Aren't you doing Teethgrinders 600 at the end of September?

I'm trying to think of a suitable reply.

"No!" just seems so inadequate.  ;)

Interested but depends upon location, trains and date.

I was thinking about organising one, especially as I had to bail last time, and because I now have Margaret Hilda Daisy  ;) .

I'm busy the weekend of the 4th/5th and 11th/12th but would like to register an interest for any other date!

My vote is for a Sunday, any of the Sundays, as it makes getting there much easier for me, as I work most Saturdays.

Annie, will you be my stoker again?

Interested - and it'll give me the necessary incentive to finish fettling Monty. No dates to avoid yet.

Generally interested for me and MiniQ but anything over 40 miles would probably be a bit of a challenge as I'm not getting out much at the moment.

I've voted for Sat 18th, but Sun 19th would be as good.

The only weekend we can't do is 11th Oct. We'll be in Pendle.

I would prefer and have voted for Saturday 18th.   At the moment it is buses only to and from Northampton at weekends for me and putting an extra 50 miles on a day ride just isn't quite gonna happen for us, yet.

I can arrange a local-ish bed with family on the 18th allowing us to ride home on the 19th.

It looks like the weekend of 18th/19th Oct is the current favourite.

I'm thinking of a route using part of the Welland Wander Audax that I'm doing next weekend as it means I can check the most of the route whilst riding the Audax. It would be a lop of about 40 miles.

If we start from Long Buckby would that help anyone with trains? - It would mean we could stop for lunch at the World Peace Tearoom near Kelmarsh.

The 7.26 from Southend would get us to Long Buckby at 10.07. £26.25 pp with a railcard.

It might be better to drive. 110 miles, according to Google.

You don't need a tandem to join in the fun. We had three (if my memory serves me correctly) solos last year.

Clockwise!

Edit: Is everyone happy with Sunday 19th October, otherwise we could do Saturday 18th, but I wont be able to do the Colours of Clumber Audax.

Yes, definitely interested in Sunday 19th October only - can't do Saturdays.  It would be good to settle the day asap, so that I can plan my diary for October.

Chris,

Just caught up on this.

As far as I am aware there are no trains running through Rugby / Long Buckby / Northampton until at least December at weekends after early in the morning on Saturdays only.  I will try and confirm this for you soon.   Online ticket booking is not helpful as often it does not even show the buses until late on Friday.

Knowing how the operation is being run at Rugby and Northampton I suspect that you may encounter difficulties parking your cars in the car park at the station either.

Can we meet up with the group at Yelvertoft please?
